[Also posted in pc forum but nobody seems to be posting at the moment]

My computer just froze (which happens to most machines from time to time) so I manually restarted it and came to the main desktop. I tried to open Internet Explorer to come back online, but nothing happened...

I waited a bit and tried again. Nothing.

I then opened word just to check stuff was still working. Word opened.

Then a couple of seconds later everything else I had clicked (explorer windows and messenger) all popped up at once.

Is this a lag with my processor or something? I have just had an AMD 2.6+ installed, so I assume it should be rather fast.

Any ideas whats up with this tart of a machine I am running?

Dirt cheap at the moment. Its best to stock up on the same speed RAM so its worth a gander to see what speed your RAM runs at. Tis the most important component when upgrading.

I can see Kyz's real problem here ...
I, with the brain of 100% sexual innuendo, can see past the computer jargon ...

Heh!

Ye XP is really bad for eating RAM up and 256MB really isn't enough to run a PC these days. I would say 512MB minimum if you are running XP. I have 1GB of RAM and XP eats over 300MB of it without me actually running any other programs. Just try running Spybot, it doesn't force you to do anything but you can see whats running. Also if you check the speed of your RAM you can easily up your FSB and still be running your PC safely.

I can forsee myself messing my entire computer up and calling up that low-life greek technician who build the damn machine for us.

I'm using Xp at the moment, and until I lose my stupidity I dont think I will mess with anything.

Unless you fancy coming over here and sorting it out for me *waves small wad of cash*

Thats the RAM memory, you need to know its speed before changing it. A program called CPUZ will give you all the info you need to know about your PC. That will tell you. Also what OS are you running? Some eat a lot of RAM up, especially Windows XP. Speeding your FSB up will speed your RAM up as well so it is important to know what speed your RAM is.

I don't want to risk it, I am ultimately stupid and will probably delete everything again.

Yep. Leave everything else on "Auto" for now but it should be Okay. What speed RAM do you have? Is it PC2100, PC2700 or PC3200?
