My beloved original Settlers game has packed up after 9 years, and I'm really missing playing it. Does anyone know anywhere I can download the original? I can't find it anywhere.

Well then!

I had the original on the Amiga, and played it daily for yonks. Then I got Settlers 2 for the PC, which was superb aswell - almost the same game as the original, only with new buildings and the ships!

The 4th I think is an improvement, primarily for the reason that you don't have to spend hours building roads to your buildings. you just click where you want it, and they start building it. the settlers then make their own roads. Also, the combat is much improved on the 4th one, and you have the addition of magic.

To me they've took out all the un-needed and annoying bits, but left the best parts - the creating excellent little villages/cities, and managing them.

Not for everyone though I suppose.

I've had it since release day and played it on and off quite often since. Not half as good fun though.

Thanks Der Nazi. Went there, they charge a tenner sterling a month to sign up though, personally I think thats a bit steep, plus I dont have a credit card.

Some great games there though.

So do I, and I think it's at least on par with the original. Maybe you didn't play it for long enough.
