I'm damn pleased to see Johnny Depp nominated for Best Actor.I seriously hope he wins, it's about time something like this got recodnized in the Oscars. His peformance in Pirates was indeed fantastic.

I still think Cold Mountain should've been nominated for Best Picture though, but it's nominated in quite a few other catogories so I'm sure they aren't too dissapointed. Also, there's the absence of Nicole Kidman in the Best Actress catogory, which I thought was kinda funny. Bet She's peeved though.

Lord Of The Rings *again* steals the show with 11 Nominations (I think), including special effects. I really think T3 or one of the Matrix sequels should've been nominated for that, as they had many more consistently good special effects shots.

Overall though, pretty interesting set of nominations.

Johnny Depp - Superb performance, and all without saying the cliched "Arrrrr" once.

Cold Mountain was crap. Nicole Kidman wasn't bad, but was unfitting for the role, and Jude Law sucked. I thought he was really good in the Talented Mr. Ripley, but completely unfitting for this; I don't know how he got nominated for Best Actor at any awards for it. Renee Zelwegger, however, was surprisingly good - the only acting of hers I've appreciated. Johnny Depp should win, he was brilliant in POTC, LOTR doesn't deserve Best Picture 'cos it's the most over-rated thing known to man.

Don't think so, which is both surprising and unsurprising (???) in that it wasn't up to much as a film but was packed with impressive special effects and a soundtrack.

Copied? I'd never own a copied Nemo! *cough* or any copied DVD for that matter! *COUGH*

I think you can preorder it right now. Blockbuster are giving you £5 of rentals if you preorder with them.

I got it on DVD. Copied and all, so we won't go into that. ;c)

But I'll be buying the actual DVD when it comes out. Or maybe it's already out?

That was my approach to the film. I saw it on Pay-per-view when on holiday in USA and loved it! Wish I had seen it in the cinema too...

Oh well, just get it on DVD next. bet the special features are good. Disney usually do some entertaining outtakes.

Here are my predictions/hopes:

> ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

Johhny Depp - No other Actor could have pulled off such an amusing and convincing character like he did.

> ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Ken Watanabe - He was fantastic in this (even though I haven't seen him in any other films!)

> ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

Haven't seen any of the films in this category so can't comment on their performances.

> ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

See above

> ANIMATED FEATURE FILM

Finding Nemo - No question about it.

> ART DIRECTION

RoTK - A perfectly pulled-off epic of a story. Made believable and engrossing in such an extraordinary way.

> CINEMATOGRAPHY

Damn it, I need to see more films! I wanted to see Master & Commander though, so that should win this category!

> COSTUME DESIGN

RoTK or Last Samurai - Very good costume creation in both Movies. I reckon RoTK will nab this one though.

> DIRECTING

RoTK again!

> FILM EDITING
RoTK is the only film I've seen in this category, so that will have to win.

> MAKEUP
RoTK or Pirates. Will CGI be counted as make up? If not, RoTK will win this.

> MUSIC (SCORE)

RoTK - fantastically composed score which suits the movie well.

> MUSIC (SONG)

Don't take notice of what songs are called in movies so don't know these.

> BEST PICTURE

RoTK. If LoT gets it, I'll cry.

> SOUND

Again, Last Samurai or RoTK.

> SOUND EDITING

Pirates.

> VISUAL EFFECTS

RoTK will most definitely get this, but I hope Pirates gets it for their impressive transitions from Human to Skeleton and back.

> WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY)

Would have to be RoTK for this award indefinitely.
>
> WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY)

Can't comment on this, only seen Finding Nemo from the choices, so that will win.

------------

I really should get out and see more films, but lately there hasn't been much to pull me into the theatre.

Same. I was like "Oh, it's gunna be crap" but it was my movie of the year last year. I rarely watch movies...

Finding Nemo was a surprisingly good film. I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did.
