Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has boosted his Champions League hopes by signing Spain international Jose Antonio Reyes from Sevilla.

Reports claim the 20-year-old winger will cost the Gunners around £16.6 million and he will treble his earnings by moving to Highbury.

Reyes is expected to arrive at Highbury this week to complete a medical and meet his new team-mates and the player's own website claims he could make his Premiership debut against Manchester City

Hahaha!!!

I can;t get over this, it's hilarious. Every Arsenal fan suddenly knows all about this Spanish guy (who's name I forget), despite nobody else having a clue who he is. The only reference anyone can give is his supposedly outstanding performance in a recent match against Real Madrid (which his team lost miserably, I believe). One game. Apparently it was the best he'd ever played. *snigger*

Anyway, the icing on the cake is the quote right from the lad's mouth:

"I'm leaving the best club in Spain to join the best club in England".

Guess no-one told him his team were something like 15th in La Liga. I can only assume he expected Arsenal to be of similar quality, hence his excitement at striking a deal.

£17 million for an unknown Spanish winger from some maggotty second-rate spanish outfit? And people say Man Utd's transfer dealings are dodgy!

i dont know if this was directly aimed at silent-scope, but im an arsenal fan from london and i knew about him quite well from watching la liga on sky one. (i also learnt some interesting phrases like; que parada and numero beinte y treis: huevos del oros, etc.)

basically, to me he's an out and out winger, but the motive behind him is strange.

i dont think we need a spanish winger in the side. it could all be a plan to put freddie in the middle, kick out gilbie and put pires on the right. choice 2 is that wenger's intention is to do an henry to him. for 16mil the price is right. this is doubtful however, because reyes really is a true winger. he doesnt leave the touchline. has bags of pace. tries tricks and earns freekicks. to me he's the current and next gen i think. pires is brilliant, but 4 years time will see reyes as god of the left.

the purchase is strange in itself. as weve said, 16mil on a midfielder not a striker or a defender is very strange. the money has surely come from the stadium's funds + our lack of spending since 2001.

his and the clubs future could be bright if the transition is made. first thing me and mates said is: "will he handle the argy bargy, or just dive". he has bags of confidence from when ive watched him play though.

sevilla's best player i'd say.

Bit risky, £20+ million for a 20 year old who is used to the sunny climates of Spain.

Time will tell I guess, but for that price you'd expect him to be a bit more than just 'potential' and a 'good prospect'

Three words are in capitals this time.

Just because you've seen him in one game doesn't mean you know all about him. He may be an excellent player, but he needs to prove himself before you say he's a BLOODY GREAT SIGNING...i htink they were the words you used.
