"The Conkers backlash has begun in the USA with many stores
refusing to stock the title due to it’s adult content, even thought it has
been labelled as Mature with an ‘M’ logo on the front of the box. The
box also carries the message "ADVISORY: THIS GAME IS NOT
FOR ANYONE UNDER AGE 17" on three different sides. Still, the
moral majority have latched onto a new target and Many
newspapers have run negative stories on the game. One such item
from the LA Times on March 7th quoted a mother comparing
Nintendo selling Conkers to "Disney releasing pornography". There’s
nothing like America’s white middle class moral standing is there?
Meanwhile, Major game retailer KB Toys has stated that it will not
stock the game in any of its 1300 stores across the nation or it’s
website. The media hysteria over Conkers Bad Fur Day has been
fuelled by the game’s violent and sexual content, as well as the
swearing and gore it contains. Which, even we admit is too strong for
children but the box has been labelled very clearly, stating that it’s an
adult game. So what exactly is the problem? Go figure"
CBFD is a break through for gaming. Not many other games will contain this amount of adult theme that CBFD will allegedly contain (according to the website, I haven't played it).
We're used to gore and violence on a grand scale, Sony and Sega we're the 'brand' leaders of the shock/horror/gory shooter genres, and Nintendo has brought out a fair few titles in the genre too, but this will move gaming forwards.
Nintendo will benefit, the cutesy image will evaporate if they get enough press out of it (not the cutesy graphics though, most Sony/Sega fans will realise what I mean by this), and the industry will be watching with bated breath to see just how much further the game content boundaries can be pushed in the US and UK in the future, which, if they can be, means whole new twists to existing games and quite possibly new genres altogether.
In Japan, they are used to semi-porn games, it's part of their culture, so nowadays it's no big thing to them, as can be plain to see from the lack of hype in the Japanese pess about the latest releases over there which include such games as getting a scantily clad model to 'pose' for a camera, or strip poker games that don't leave much to the imagination, but this is really the first time a truly 'adult' game has been release in Europe and the US that is pushing boundaries out by miles instead of metres.
We will benefit if the press don't manage to ban it, which they won't, and if it sells well enough, our gaming experience could be guaranteed, both for new gamers now who will grow to adulthood, and adult gamers now who are now going to have a much greater variety of games to choose from.
Bring it on.

I'll be holding a tea party later, we can all have cucumber sandwiches and play tennis. In big white shirts.
...On a completly different note, has anyone ever seen The Patriot?
Trust me. Don't.
