...you only have another 4 months until another handheld joins the market...

...I mean, September! Are Sony trying to pee the UK off or something?

I've read that before.
Still not clear whether it means it'll be able to connect to the internet wirelessly - or if you'll also be able to connect wirelessly to the internet through it, like with your DS or even your laptop or whatever.

Lets put it this way.

November 21st: PSP launches. Nintendo have no time to counter act that as releases in December rarely do well. Nintendo will have to launch any "new DS colours" or major games the week before or on the day of the PSP launch. The PSP hype and release will steam roll that.

September 1st: PSP released. The DS will suffer bad sales for a month and will slowly start to pick up again. In November Nintendo release new colour DS' and a few top rated games.

Sony are giving Nintendo time to be able to make an impact on Christmas 2005. If it was released in November Nintendo would have a VERY difficult task to counteract it.

It seems to me Sony are trying to release it early enough not to upset the Europeans but late enough to at least hit Christmas.

It's not that much of a difference, surely.
You get all the die-hards buying it in September, then all the not-so-muchers around Christmas.

The same amount ... just not at the same time.
I suppose initial launch-day impact fever sets up a fair few sales, though.
Meh.

What news, Dringo?
Would be excellent ...

A september release would always hit christmas, just not to the same extent as December.

Nintendo wouldn't get a look in.

Sony could have thought that that time of the year was when they were ready to release the PSP over here and they then decided to use school/uni starting again to their advantage.
It is true that they could totally dominate Nintendo at Christmas if they had delayed it a few more months but by releasing it just before schools return they could still do this. When people get the PSP at release they will ineviteably bring it to school/work/uni and will then show their mates (presuming they have any). These people will then be able to convince other people to buy it and a lot of this buying will happen at Christmas.
I got a DS a few months before release and convinced quite a few people to buy one and other people at my school have done this with the PSP after importing one and after it is released the next major present giving extravaganza is only a short while away, be it a birthday before or during December or Christmas or any other festive celebration in which presents are exchanged.

The clever bastar...

That's what I recall, allowing you to use your DS online. That being the connection between the two.

Hang on I'll check on that.
