So I'm walking home from my girlfriend's house this morning. It's about 8:45am. The quickest way home is through an old park, which goes by some woods, which are quite big and scary. It's very isolated, yet some stupid lazy parents still let their children go through there on their own. I couldn't believe that someone would be that lazy and irresponsible. The school is a ten minute walk, including the return journey, yet someone would risk sending their kids out (they were about 8 or 9 years old), through isolated woodland, which leads onto a main road. If I've learnt anything about society in the last few years, it's that there are lots of nutjobs - especially in my part of the world. Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman are prime examples of what can happen if you leave children of that age to their own devices.

I'm not getting all impassioned about it, because kids should be allowed and encouraged to play out and explore, but it amazed me that someone would let their kids walk alone through that particular area, when it would only take 10 minutes out of their precious schedule to make sure they got to school OK.

Of course i'm not entirely serious. My only serious point is that something needs to be done to educate parents as to how not to create a criminal, a bully or a psychopath.

Right, right...and those rights and who gets them; that gets decided by...?

This is a joke, right?

No-one with half a brain actually believes that giving that level of control over the individual to the government is a good thing, right?

Right?

A Brave New World awaits.

And no, anything but simple. A logistical and human rights nightmare.

You are joking on all this right?

Oh *hell* I'll check back later on this one. My sitewide change of an image has just totally crashed my machine. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

(sings) three weeks work possible down the drain.

And there wouldn't be outcry from human rights people when?

At least we'd get no more 'official' townie mong mothers, but then again, it'd never work, in my opinion.

Not so hard to enforce if you're willing to be strong about it. Baby is born in hospital, hospital staff check database, parent doesn't have qualifications, child is taken away to a "development institute", a production line for streetsweepers, chimney sweeps, and those guys that come around twice a day to spray air freshener in the men's at work.

The next step is, of course, electronically tagging "viable" citizens for educational and other purposes. Children applying for anything without a tag are thusly sent to the institute for correction.

Simple?

I think the risk from walking through woodland is pretty small. It seems as though you're just as likely to be kidnapped and then murdered on the streets as you are in a park. Let them walk to school, that's my opinion.
