Obviously didn't read my post did you?

Your "mate" is clearly a pikey kazaa-queen, who lacks any ability to acquire anything other than what people post to him on P2P programs.

No idea what I am talking about? Nope sure not, its only a pretty good mate who pirates nearly everything for the local town. I never get anything off him because off the sheer low quality of his goods. I saw it at his house on a 36" TV with Dolby Digital however it was only using about 75% of the screen and it was running in 2 channel stereo. Pirates are for fools or for those who really don't care about quality goods.

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. Advance copies of pretty much all decent films are sent to certain representatives in DVD format for consideration for certain awards. It is during this awards process that many films find their way onto kazaa as perfect quality DivX rips. The only problem, historically, has been that these copies have a text warning which periodically appears on the screen, saying that this is a submission or 'consideration' copy. However, in the last couple of years, 'decent' hackers have found ways of removing these warnings, leaving behind a perfect copy.

These perfect (and highly illegal) copies are available well before video camera back seat cinema versions (which are also highly illegal) are, mainly because the latter version is not available until the film has been given an official cinema release.

Firstly, whilst the cinema version has DTS and all the other bells and whistles it also has the "people eating" soundtrack, "people's mobile phones" soundtrack "kids messing around" soundtrack, "load of crap adverts that you are actually paying to see" exclusive trailer and occasional "person in front of" alternative angle viewing. Plus by the time you have a decent seat and refreshments you've spent the cost of the DVD release in most cases.

The DVD may not have 5.1, may not be crystal clear, but it IS better than commercial VHS and in stereo - hence acceptable. If the film studios had any sense they'd stick a version on internet streaming pay per view because I'm sure it'd work. I reckon that a lot of the problem with the pirating of new releases is that many people don't like the cinema any more or don't have the time to go, or think it's overpriced, many want to watch the films in their own home on their own stuff, when they want, with their own friends/family or by themselves. Not stuffed into an overheated, overpriced cattle shed with idiots making noises and stuff and being subjected to 30 mins worth of crap adverts.
