I've noticed that since DVDs came around, you have to say "VHS" instead of "video". No one said VHS before DVDs came in, now it's the law.

Even more unrelated to the topic, Betamax, which apparently was the technically superior equivalent to VHS was eventually phased out the latter due to market "forces" at the time.
