Looking at getting a digital camera, I don't want to spend too much on some super amazing thingy, but I don't want something cheap and nasty...

I'm looking to spend about £150 on it as it will be a christmas/birthday present.

Now I've had a look, and there are LOADS of them, all over the place and I haven't got a clue what to get.

I want one with a large memory because I'll be taking it on holiday and it will have to last a week of piccies without filling up too, but I want it to be small so that it can fit into my coat. Also making it indestructable would be helpful as I'll be taking it skiing and I'm bound to end up nearly killing myself with it in my pocket!

I just want any general ideas at the moment as to what I should get/avoid and if people have any they would recommend, I'll decide nearer the time...

Thanks.

I have an 128MB card for my Olympus, it stores practically infinite pictures at any quality you like (provided you compress them into jpeg). I don't know if I'd bother paying for more, unless you have a specific need for uber storage.

Use Kelkoo if you ever want to find cheap prices, Amazon is the second cheapest for the camera (only by 5p inc. P&P!) but it's no way the cheapest for the cards.

I managed to save quite a bit when I bought my ZEN by going through Kelkoo, got it about £20 cheaper than other places.

Sod ordering now, can't be ars*d!

Do it later this week.

Don't forget to get your FREE case from Amazon. The 2x128mb card looks good. Wish I had searched abit more and saw that as its only £25 more than my 128mb card. Looking at various websites it seems that the offical 128mb Sony sticks cost around £45. Actually getting another 128mb card would cost a little under £20 compared to what a 256mb card would have cost. Plus really I dont need it as the 128mb + 16mb is plenty. When I go to New York I can borrow a few cards off my friend, as he and his dad each have Sony Digital Cameras and camcorders so they will have some 64mb and probably 128mb's.

I might as well buy it tonight as this will be the only chance I get before Christmas.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ [SPACE] ASIN/B00008J1BD/ref%3Dbr%5Flf%5Fce%5F0/ [SPACE] 202-3462084-6206201/shopgenie-ce-21/ [SPACE] 202-3189676-9976651

And I'll get this too:

http://www.dabs.com/uk/productview?quicklinx=2DMK

All comes to £260 meaning I've just got to pay £10 out of my own money. Not bad really.

If anyone has any reasons why these two should not be bought, speak now or forever hold your, your... damn... what do you have to hold? Breath?

Sony 128MB Memory Stick is £35.

I might just get a couple of those.

It's cheaper to get 4 of those though than it is for a 512MB one! Suppose t's a pain havig 4 seperate cards though...

Ah, it's Sony, so you've gotta use their memory sticks and not the usual cards that other cameras use...

Actually working it out, the 512mb is the same sort of price as 4 x 128mb. So you dont really save any money getting the big card, unless of course you can get it for £100 then its totally worth it.

512mb sticks are more than £100, way more. The 512mb sticks use the new Memory Stick Pro so are alot. Ebuyer has a 512mb Sony card for £185. So as much as the camera.

Yes you can take video clips with sound. You can do a small resoultion or a big 640x480 movie. I think in one review they said a 128mb card allows nearly 6 mins of video at 640x480, or it could have even been the 16mb card. One good thing is that you can record till the card runs out.

I'll be getting it tuesday so it wont be til late tuesday or wednesday til I can post a few pics.

I am happy getting the 128mb for £45 rather than getting the 512mb as in every day life I doubt you would fill the 128mb let alone 512mb. I want lots of space for when I go to New York in the easter, but my friend has some 64mb cards I should be able to borrow :)
