It's not looking too bad, is it?

We're ranked 6th in the world.
We're fourth favourites (behind France, Italy & Portugal) to win Euro 2004.
We have arguably one of the world's best defences, a solid midfield, some very promising strikers and David James does his job very well.
England haven't lost to a European country in a competitive match under Sven.

So, will we crash out at the first hurdle like in Euro 2000 or make our first ever European final?

Don't blame me. It wasn't me who wrote most of it.

That would just be ridiculous if that happened, but I can't see it happening. (well I hope not anyway).

Well, you were being so pesimistic about a country that has edged a very good country into the playoffs (which they'll no doubt qualify from after all our hard work - damn it).

You were trying to say something negative about every positive point I made - e.g. England 6th in the FIFA rankings - "oooo, they don't count."

Remember Euro 96 when Baddiel and that lot released 3 Lions - the nation was infected with football fever and patrioticism. England did all right that year - it does help to be positive, you know.

Even I would like to see Sven EVENTUALLY dissapear. After all, we are talking about England here, the home of football, who can't even provide a national coach bearing a matching nationality. He shouldn't just go now though. It's too important and crucial a time to do something like change the manager. Yes, maybe before the World Cup 06 qualifiers if England don't perform at Euro 2004, but imagine this on the news:

"The FA has today sacked Sven Goran Erikkson 3 days after England's heroic victory over France in Lisbon. It was Sven's bold substitution that gave England the winning goal late in the game, but the FA chairman blah blah blah..."

I'm jealous because England suck? Heh. That kind of defeats your entire argument, you muppet!

Man United don't suck - Winning `The Treble´ isn't something "suckers" do - so you MUST be on about England (...and Bristol City aren't going anywhere this season, looking at recent results).

And Foreman, you make a good point.
As much as I hate to admit it, it would be very bad for us to lose Eriksson, now that we have qualified for the finals in Portugal next year. There is no-one ready to come into the job and turn as around in-time. At least the Swede knows our players (or, at least, he should do...).

I'd also like to see Steve Bruce appointed as the next England manager, but he could never be asked to walk-out on Birmingham, and I doubt anyone could hack managing both a Premiership and Top-10 International team.

So, I guess we're stuck with him, unfortunately.
And, unless he can realise there is more to our team besides David Beckham and Michael Owen, I don't think we'll get past the quarter-finals.

But if we can't control our fans for even ONE of the next few friendlies, we could be straight-out of the tournament altogether - just like that!

I agree. Playing football aggressively is great fun!

The only downside is that you can injure people by playing aggressively. I've put people in hospital after tackling them.

But it seems to be doing the trick. We are unbeaten in 8 or more games now. So what if we don't look like we are playing good, as long as we get the result.

I agree that Sven should not be the manager of England, because of the simple fact he's not English, but to get rid of him now would be a VERY BAD MISTAKE.

We have just qualified for the championship, and to get rid of Sven would be very wrong. It would mean that we would have to find a new manager, who would then have to sort out the team in very little time.

We should wait until after the Championships and get someone like Steve Bruce in.
