I hate my PC! It is like 4-5 years old now (talk about a relic) and I am seriously going to resort to violence against it if it doesn't start pulling it's weight. It runs XP and stuff but over the 4-5 years it's not had one single upgrade and it was hardly top of the line £2000+ when we got it anyway. My computer has got really bad now though. The most notable problem is it's inability to run simple movie trailers. I love to watch trailers and stuff on the net but the sound is allways A)out of sync and B) distorted. It's terrible.

Because of these reasons and more i have come to the obvious conclusion that I NEED a new PC. Unfortunately my parents would be paying for it and they only use the comp once in a blue moon for e-mails so they don't even notice or care about how crap the comp is. Do any of you have any ideas on how I can convince them to unwillingly buy me a new computer? and can any of you recommend a good computer system for around £1,500. Thanks everyone.

If i had a choice between a desktop or laptop i would go with a desktop everytime.

They are cheaper, can be upgraded in more than 2 areas and are better performers.

You may be put off of building your own computer, but i would advise you to look into it, the idea used to frighten me too, but now im looking forward to getting stuck in.

P.s. do you think I should just get a lap top? My Dad says he could get me a reasonably high spec one from his work but it'll still be like £500. I would just be using this in my bedroom mind and would be able to hook it up to my broadband connection in the room I'm in now I think. Can any of you think of any good, reasonably cheap places to get laptops?

I wouldn't think it's particulary different but it does mean that I only know about low spec parts and haven't even seen high spec ones.

Yeh I think I will make a post about this in the PC forum but not right now. Might aswell wait until I've got enough money to atleast get started heh.

Because building a low-spec PC and a high-spec PC is completely different.

Heh I would build my own but I have no idea what is a high spec piece of hard ware, what isn't, what's compatible with what etc. I have no idea. I have built a PC before but it was very low spec and I had help from a mate.
