Don't go into Battlefield 2 thinking you'll just jump into a aircraft though, in both Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam (not to mention Desert Combat) Aircraft spawn areas where camped by people who all wanted to get their hands anything that could fly. There where just groups of mongs all stood in the same area, swarming aircraft as soon as they appeared.
Crap if you want to fly, but great if you want to harvest a few easy kills. I always sniped people waiting at these spawns, while some lucky enough to actually get into an aircraft, got really good at dropping bombs enemy spawn points.

You start off and pick which type of guy you want to play as, this will depend on the guns you want and the equipment you want.
You can then run up to any vehicle and get in and drive/shoot/fly/crash it anywhere you like. if you get in a jet you can fly it up really high and then just jump out and parachute out and fall slowly to the ground.

You might be ok, he did say an "FX" card which you have, you just don't have the 128mb ram on the card. Might be worth a try though!
Can you fly the helicopters and jets etc? and do you have to spend the whole game in them..or can you just bowl over to one, get in and start some ariel warfare?
Desert combat was an easier game for a lot of people to play as they didn't like the long reload times, the fact that planes didn't go stupidly fast and that tank shells were effected by gravity.
I like both of these games but after playing desert combat, some good old-fashioned 1942 action is a welcome change.
Battlefield Vietnam is personally my favourite as it's much more man based where as 1942 was just big open spaces and if you didn't have a vehicle you where a dead man, Vietnam allowed people to use cover much more effectively and vehicles where few in numbers on most maps, meaning that if the team was a bit organised they could take you out with a few places shots.
