After some unpronouncable team beat them 1:0 at St. James' the match went to Peno's.

Shearer, Dyer and Woodgate MISSED but somehow they pulled it back to Sudden death, but Aaron Hughes (?) missed and some other unpronouncable person netted his peno to win it 4:3.

I was surprised myself; Shearer rarely misses. What surprises me is that Newcastyle lost at home to a team with only two skilled internationals (Krajl and Sasa Ilic).

After Alan Shearer missed, you somehow got the feeling that this wasn't going to be Newcastle's day.

When they all missed......

That was just pathetic.

I have just watched the postmatch interview with Sir Bobby and Dyer on Newcastle World and he says that money is the last thing on their minds at the moment as they are "distraught" over not being able to play against Europes best this season. If anyone wants the highlights (only place you can see them) or interviews etc I can download the videos from Newcastle World online and send them onto you. You will need an email account that can accept more than 2mb of data though.

As for Birmingham this weekend...

After the disappointing start I can see Newcastle going out to get their season started at home this Saturday. Bellamy is out for 2 weeks however aside from that it is a full strength squad. They will get their season under way this Saturday and hopefully go on a run to take them up their with Arsenal and United.

Maybe £50 million for winning the Champs leauge but no offence intended Newcastle are a couple of defenders away from that yet so £10 million is perhaps as good a income as could have been expected which now wont happen sadly (i like most people here did enjoy watching Newcastles heriocs in last years tourney... especially when you were as good as dead and buried 3 times yet still kept bouncing back to claw through)

Im hoping Birmingham can capitalise on your mis-fortunes and then after that i wish Newcastle all the luck in the Uefa cup.

Potential £10 million? More like a potential £50 million as well as experience gained and a chance to pit against the best in Europe. Make no mistake this is the worst scenario possible however a young squad with top manager will go places. I can't believe what has happened since pre season up on Tyne Side however it can only get better from here on out. Get back on track with a win at home to Bermingham on Saturday and go on a run to get them back challenging the top 5 teams.

Shows how much you know doesn't it?

Oh thats right Newcas**tle World TV is the only place with full audio commentary from the pitch and dugout outside of Newcas**tle as well as being the only place with license to show match highlights. I laugh at the inferior knowledge of some people when they jump into something they clearly know nothing about. The fact I subscribe to Newcas**tle World as well as following them around Europe puts you ate a major disadvantage as well as some of the other pos**ters who are very ill-informed when it comes to Newcas**tle United.

I mean come on the guy who wrote the pos**t hadn't even heard of them. Before the area was split up into different sections Yugoslavian football was known as the Brazilian football of the European leagues and they always have been very good technically. Bobby Robson took his Barcelona side in the early 90's to Belgrade when Ronaldo, Figo, Giovani, Xavi, Frank De Boer etc were all at the top of their game and only jus**t scraped through despite being behind for the majority of the match.

Partizan Belgrade won the league by 16 points las**t season as wll as seeing of teams like AC Milan during in house tournaments. They are and have been for a long time a superbly technical team. This however does not make up for the fact that Newcas**tle should have walked out winners especially after going to a very hos**tile belgrade with a little over 100 fans and coming away with a 1-0 win and a decent defensive performance.

Tonight Newcas**tle were far from poor outside of the back line which is something which has marred their performances ever since the 95/96 season under Keegan. Newcas**tle are awesome going forward, Dyer picked up Man of the Match as well as Speed and Solano putting sh*t loads of work into the middle of the park. The goal was conceeded sloppily after some very poor marking by O'Brien and a slip from Hughes and this has been Newcas**tle's problem for a while now.

Critisising one of the greates**t managers the world has ever seen is something I won't be seen doing however I as well as many other Newcas**tle fans (and true football fans) will know that the defence is by far the weakes**t area. 16 times las**t season Newcas**tle went ahead in all competitions only to walk away with less than 3 points. Team like Man Utd, Arsenal, Juventus and many other top European sides don't do this and unitl Newcas**tle bols**ter the full back positions they will never be seen lifting the Premiership trophy.

A lot of people were caught critisising the Man Utd defence las**t season yet they had the bes**t defensive record in te Premiership. Top teams are s**trong across the full 11 and as of yet (aside from the fantas**tic Mr. Woodgate) Newcas**tle are defensively a very weak side. This was evident at Leeds 2 weeks a go and at Man Utd las**t weekend when they were trying to play Nis**tel offside on too many occassions. When Hughesy los**t concentration and Bramble s**tupidly s**tepped up to play Nis**tel offside the ball was played through and Cas**tle conceeded a very sloppy goal.

I find myself saying this on a weekly basis and being a long serving Newcas**tle fan my frus**tration with the excess of £25 million that Sheppard gave Sir Bobby to spend hasn't been spent. We got Woodgate as the buy/bargain of the season and then swooped a couple of youth players and Bowyer on a free. The problem however isn't with the top half of the squad its with the defence yet when Carr, Bridges and even Mills were hinted at moving clubs Newcas**tle were only linked with them by paper talk. The managerial prowess of Sir Bobby es**tounded me when didn't push the bank balance and spend the remaining £20 million on a full back and decent defensive player.

As for Ashleys comment about the next Chelsea...

Please don't act so silly. 4 weeks a go Bayern Munich tripped to St. James only to go home with a draw. Las**t season Juventus came to St. James and walked away empty handed. A 2-2 draw in the San Siro agains**t Inter las**t season was one of the fines**t European performances I have ever seen from an English side and Inter were lucky to get the point. Chelsea over the pas**t 3 seasons haven't been able to see of the Norweigan lack lus**ters and other paper bag fighters yet Newcas**tle in the firs**t outing in Champions league as a full fresh squad in 5 years with a squad with 15 players averaging the age of 22 went and performaed agains**t the highes**t of quality in by far the hardes**t second s**tage group and a difficult firs**t s**tage. They aren't the next Chelsea its jus**t tonight didn't go for them at all. Partizans keeper was outs**tanding and Dyer and Jenas had 2 gifted chances (Jenas open goal slide) to equal the score yet failed to do so.

Partizan are a hard working side and despite the fact you may not be into football enough to know who they are believe me when I say they are a fine technical team with some great players (Illiev, Taribo Wes**t, Ille but to name a few of the decent and hard working s**tars).

Gutted?

Thats not half of what I am at the moment. I couldn't believe what was happening yet as every minute went by and chances were was**ted I couldn't see it being Newcas**tle's night. 3 penalty decisions turned down and an ous**tanding individual performance from the keeper from set pieces (particualy Shearer's 91s**t minute drive) kept Newcas**tle at bay during open play. Once penalties s**tart its anyones game and tonight wasn't going to be Newcas**tle's night.

I am gutted beyond belief and my pos**ts on Newcas**tle world to NUFC about defensive qualities will mos**t likely go ignored by the men who count. However Sir Bobby's experience around Europe and his contacts should hopefully see a couple of decent defensive players to go along side Woodgate hit Tyne side when New Year arrives. Yes it will be too late for this season however aside from the long serving Speed the squad will be here next time around only s**tronger. The average age of the Newcas**tle squad is 23 and 15 of those the average age is 22. They are young players with a lot to prove and their time will come around soon enough.

For now however I will go and mourn over a bowl of Corn Flakes as I s**till haven't gotten over the disappointment and sheer dispair of a season without Champions League football. Oh and before someone says anything I don't pos**t in the Sport forum despite living for football. The majority of my pos**ts would end up long and passionate and I don't have the time normally. I juct couldn't let the pathetic comments tonight go un-noticed.

Neither did I!

Was listening to the pens on radio 5 when this was mentioned. His face when Solskjaer scored the winner is legendary!
