I was sitting in a bank in my local town (leicester) and a few weeks ago suddenly about 20 *foreign* people walked in with bits of paper and cheques. Half of them couldn't speak a word of english but they got a new window open for them so they could get free money and then go off again.
Now it happened again yesterday and it was the very same people again (all dressed in their designer gear etc and all their rings and chains, now i don't mind if they were poor people who actually attempted to get a job once in a while but you could see these guys have no intention ever of getting a job, and thats the problem with this country.
never mind, only 2 more years until labour loses power and then this will not be a problem any more.

I've read a few replies to this thread, and I'm getting confused.
Are some of you complaining about immigrants, illegal immigrants, or asylum seekers, because there's a damn big difference between the three of them!
The one question I do wish to raise against asylum seekers is this:
If they are so scared of persecution or whatever at home, surely they would be glad to get to the closest safe country. So why risk travelling illegally all the way here?
Are there no other safe countries anywhere else?

My dad has been made redundant about 3 times in his life due to his area of work and has never signed on. I think he went about 3-4 months before he got employment once. Big silly lefty
It must be very easy to fall into a cyale of depnding on the government to take care of you, pay for you house, benifits etc. But ultimatly not taking responsibility for you own life must give you a huge restriction of your freedom. Its not like you can live wherever you want. I would hate to live off the government. I hated being on job seekers allowence in the couple of months between leaving Uni and finding a job.

Actually aren't asylum seekers allowed to get jobs once their application has been approved?
Isn't it just while they are waiting for a decision that they can't get employment?

Howdy Bun, welcome to the "intelligent" discussion forum.
And if they were allowed to get jobs all you people complaining about how they use up country resources would be complaining about how they were stealing all our jobs causing unemployment to rise.
Remember Aslyum seekers are so called because they are seeking asylum from some horrendous experiences. Things no one should ever have to go through.
Having said that when you here about some of the crimes that are commited by people whom we have given asylum to, you wonder how they can be so ungreatful.

By the way, most of them aren't allowed to get jobs. But they should probably just be grateful not to be kept in prison, huh??

Urkie, and also KR - go learn something. Also (1) define "foreigners"(sounds stupid, but someone who can cavalierly refer to 'indians/asians etc.' obviously needs some help). (2) go find out how many asylum seekers "etc." *are* asian.
Your ignorance and inarticulacy prompted me to register and in doing so much of my anger turned to pity. And disgust, obviously.
Recognise that, if you feel the need to have such disgustingly closed ideas and opinions about issues/people, you have a responsibility to actually know what you're talking about. Otherwise, it's like Thumper's Mum said - if you got nothing useful to say, keep quiet (or thereabouts).

Yeh that is what happened, any one who signed on had to do a job for their dole money.
Another thing the Germans did (i lived there for a few years due to my dad being in the army) was that if the traffic wardens etc saw anyone parked in a disabled parking space without a badge in the windscreen then they would get out this full length poster that covered the windscreen and it was really ahrd to scrape off. It would take a few hours it get off.
