Got a virus called "Parite" or something. I keep doing a virus check with this new checker I just got and it recognises to viruses, yet says "You have no viruses". I can't open hardly any programs.

I get the error "Win32/Parite is found in file . Please run AVG for Windows."

I do yet it doesn't work. Hellllllp.

I think it's gone now. I've reinstalled a few things, and if they get reinfected...then sod it, I'll try something else. Thanks guys, been a great help.

Re-installing programs that have been infected dont help because they become reinfected, and i found you needed to reinstall them after exit. But this virus did propt my brother to stop downloading untrustworthy games from Kazaa, and to actually get a virus checker :P

Oh and:

The virus creates the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\PINF

The virus may mis-infect files with an incomplete virus body. These damaged samples are detected as W32/Pate.b.dam, cannot be repaired, and should be deleted and restored from backup.

Can't help you on this virus, but once you get a perfectly clean and stable OS with your progs running again, creata an image of the disk so you canuse that in these cases.

I can't run any *.exe files.

I just deleted it. To be quite honest, I don't care what happens now. I can still access my PC, so if I need to, I can back up all my mp3s and all my other random crap. Then I can just get a new Hard Drive and install the FULL version of XP that I own.
