I need some help from someone who knows a lot about computers. My computer has suddenly started acting odly. As soon as I turn my machine on when it is loaded I go to start > settings > network connections to connect to the internet, but each time I did so, the start menu froze, as did the task bar along the bottom of the screen - however I could still use desktop icons and stuff.

I kept re-setting and evetually the problem went away. However now every time I try and use Microsoft Paint the same thing happens now. I have just defragemnted and it is still being really weird. My hard drive isn't full to bursting (79% free space) - I dont have any crap like Kazaa still on my comp and I dont have any dodgy pirate software. I havent installed anything recently and this problem seems to have come out of nowhere!

Help!

This has happened to me before too. When it does, press Ctrl + Alt + Del and close any programs that aren't responding. If that makes your taskbar disappear, then you know which program is causing the problem. If deleting the program won't solve it, then delete the program to remove the problem, and then reinstall Windows.

I think that'll work.

Obvious thing to do first is to go to the bit where you can add and remove windows components and remove paint, restart, add paint, restart, see if it's worked.
