I think Marriage is a wonderful ceremony. What are your views on it? Do any of you want to get married, and if not, why not?

Are any of you married already and have any horror stories or great stories to tell?

Getting married? No way! I've been with my girlfriend for nearly 4 years now and we've both agreed that marriage is a waste of money. We're both at University at the moment and after that we'll need the money. Plus, because we've already lived together and got on well, we're desperate to get back to living together again. So that comes before any other kind of commitment, and I can't see how marriage would change anything. If we ever did, it would be shotgun style in Vegas, but I can't see that happening. We've lived together, travel a lot together, have a lot of fun - and that's good enough for me (and hopefully her).

And it feels naughtier to live in sin!

you still are not answering.

surely the sri lankans would charge more because they know this would be a good tourist income. you are paying for a temple apparently. you are paying for limos (elephants)

random people that you havent and probably couldnt talk to, dont make for very enlightening company.

youve said the same things 3 times without much difference

why is there over £10,000 difference and personally being surrounded by stranges would not be nice for me.

i agree with you when you say it was different and special.

Get married: never.
Why not: I'm a man of solitude.

Why does it cost so much less?
Ok, 3rd time through, try to pay attention:

Cost of wedding in England with all the trappings of paying for everything from marquee/hall for reception to the bouquets for bridesmaids averages at £16,000.

Cost to fly to Sri Lanka and have traditional wedding, already at your honeymoon destination?
£2,400
Because you are not spending on churches, limos etc.

Why would she enjoy hotel staff celebrating her wedding? Same reason people get married in the 1st place, it makes you feel good. And local villagers celebrate a wedding because it is a joyous occasion.
They weren't press ganged into it.
A spontaneous celebration of another person's happiness.

Not for that kind of money! That's over a month's wages for them.

Because the average cost of a church wedding/reception/drivers/catering/honeymoon /band/marquee/waiters etc amounts to roughly £16,000.

Or go to an exotic location, stay for 2 weeks and have a traditional Sri Lankan ceremony etc for £2,400. Including flights, hotel and banquet afterwards.

Every Joe Public does the church thing in a Rolls.
She had elephants, dancers, flowers and more elephants.
