Does anybody have a good free firewall that they could recommend me?
Easy question, gonna get complicated answers now!
Thanks.
I'm not too fussed about incoming stuff, it's the outgoing stuff I don't like.
realplayer was trying to connect to the net every 30 seconds and it stopped loads of other programs from doing it.

If you have a netbios vulnerability and your firewall is blocking access the netbios port, how can you possibly claim that doesn't make your system more secure? Even if your firewall is vulnerable as well, that's still two layers to crack instead of just one. Your firewall will also stop your computer cheerily responding to every ICMP echo request.
And to say that hundreds of thousands of broadband users exist without firewalls or getting hacked is ludicrous - how do you think script kiddies are able to take down major hosting companies with DoS'?? Could it be by hijacking lots of unprotected broadband-equipped machines?!?!?! Shurely shome mishtake!

If you're on a LAN you're likely behind somekind of NAT firewall anyway. If you're bolted straight to the internet on a broadband connection without a firewall, you're screwed. At the very least, Zonealarm et al will stop your NetBIOS ports responding with "Yes I exist, please hack the %! out of me!"
