I know this is going to make me sound like an emotionally retarded spastic who likes to touch chinchilla genitals at night, but I need to ask you lot a question.

Can you reccomend me any good books? I suck at choosing books, cause I never read them much. I want to get a GOOD book for holiday reading (Going to Ibiza next month :D)

I want a book that's funny, and good enough to grip you for a long time. I remember Meka Dragon saying a month or so ago about one book he liked - but I can't remember its name.

Thanks for the help.

hmmm, gonna start reading olaf stapledons last and first men tonight. I read his other main book, starmaker, a while ago, and I must say its the deepest and most epic book I've ever read.

some of the theories and concepts he tries to convey are just astounding to me. I've been putting off reading this one, as its a story of the same scale, and you need a perfectly straight head to keep up with his brilliant mind.

anyone else read either of these books?

I suggest Super-Cannes - JG Ballard just because I am reading it at the moment and it is good.

If you're planning to get the whole trilogy you might as well get it in one book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0385410441/ qid=1058127697/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3_3/202-1611761-2930227

It'll knock about a fiver off the price, but I don't blame you if you just want to try one of them. It's probably not everyone's cup of tea, although I think more of a general audience than Discworld.

Try Pratchett's nome trilogy (Truckers, Diggers, Wings) - very nice books, critics would no doubt describe as "life-affirming". Also interesting comparisons between us and the nomes can be seen. Give it a go.

Don't get me wrong - I went to read Harry Potter with no expectations, I was'nt desparate to hate it.

I guess it just never really interested me.

(Sigh i'm talking about Harry Potter. Its sunday and I have'nt been to a party for a few weeks - life without alcohol makes gamezfreak talk sensible)
