The military authorities in Iraq are offering a $25m reward for information leading to the capture of former president Saddam Hussein.
The top US official in Iraq, Paul Bremer, said $15 million was being offered for similar information about Saddam's two sons, Uday and Qusay.

"I have certainly not forgotten Saddam Hussein and his sons," Mr Bremer said in a message broadcast to the Iraqi people.

"They may or may not still be alive. Until we know for sure, their names will continue to cast a shadow of fear over this country."

The whereabouts of Saddam Hussein has been the source of much speculation since Baghdad fell to US-led forces on 9 April.

The $25m matches the reward the US is offering for information leading to the capture of Osama Bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader missing since the fall of the Taleban regime in Afghanistan early in 2002.

----------------

So. Now they admit they failed to kill him. Earlier this year they insisted he was dead, now they ask for information on his whereabouts. So the whole war was bungled, and there are still no weapons of mass destruction. A few days ago the most people yet had been killed in the whole war.

OK Bell, if that's the way you are going to play it, then I'll try a different approach. (While ignoring your strange logic for the meanwhile).

Let's put it this way: the war, quick though it was, has hardly been as good as anyone would have liked. That's fair enough, war's never been a successful answer to a country's problems completely. My two major problems about this war are:

1. We were lied to constantly by Bush and Blair.
2. We've done nothnig to actually make Iraqis' lives better.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/ (SPACE) world/middle_east/3038732.stm

That link shows the second point. What we have done is completely destabilise the region, put our own men at risk at the will of the Americans, and deprive the Iraqis of simple provisions such as water and electricity. Not only that, both we and the Ba'athists have considerably decreased Iraq's oil exports, causing the country to be made poorer as a result.

And for what? For the POTENTIAL of democracy? For the CHANCE? The Iraqis won't be seeng elections for a good long time, Bell, because it's unsafe for the country in terms of ethnic and religious differences, so that's not a good reason. We've taken away law and order, that's for sure, which has certainly benefited the criminals, but not the Iraqis as a whole, the people we should be helping.

Saddam has been deposed. People are not at risk from his disgusting Ba'ath party any more. Or are they? Well, as proven by the recent attacks, even Iraqis are being targeted by the pro-Saddam forces resisting the Americans. And now, with the Americans all jumpy and nervous, they're coming into people's homes at any time they please and searching their houses at gunpoint. This is freedom?

The crucial point is not the fact that this is happening. I suppose we all should have expected it. The problem is the fact that no real progress is being made with regards to law and order, democracy or even the water anf electricity supplies. Instead, we're still searching for weapons that aren't there - they've searched the sites that intel marked out as being the places where Saddam was hiding his WMDs, but what have we found? Barely a weapon, let alone a system of any sort. This proves that the intel we used was wrong - we went to war on incorrect information. Saddam MAY have hidden the weapons, but suppose he thought that he didn't need them anymore, because he wasn't taking over the Arab world? We went to war on a hunch? None of our soldiers deserved to be killed on a hunch.

All that was good from this war was the removal of Saddam. We've given the Iraqis so much in return. But here's the thing, they don't want it - they want electricity, clean water and safety, and all we've done so far is take it away from them. Democracy comes after all this, for them, and rightly so.

Wasn't sarcasm.
And your refusal to address my polite and non-attacking post is typical.

I'm saying when your source is quoting from a site that essentially attacks everything about Western society there is then to use it in an argument to prove a point about a western power is totally stupid.

It'd be like arguing that Hitler was brilliant using references from the BNP website... or suicide bombers using hizbollah's web site...

Come back when you have something worthwhile to say...

So, using your l;ogic, we really shouldn't be reporting anything about our own troops - instead, for reports on our men out there, we should rely on reports from the other side.

Come on, Bell...

Why indeed LL, I believe an article sourced from a site containing such wonderful topics as;

"Homosexuality and Lesbianism: Sexual Perversions"
"Fatwa Corner"
"Israeli Settler Violence… A Colonialist Strategy?"
"An American Vision for the Future "

is not going to be anywhere near worth considering as a source of true fact. I'd further point out that if you checked the site the article was sourced from you'd realise the stupidity in posting it in the first place.

Hey Bell, just to nip in a quick quetion for you to amuse us with, how do you respond to the 'allegations' (as you'll no doubt see them) made in this link?

http://www.rense.com/general38/bbgg.htm

Or do we not trust the people in Iraq to tell the truth?
