On the downstairs machine, do Start->Run->command, and then type in "ping 192.168.0.2". You should hopefully get more or less the following:
Pinging 192.168.0.2 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Ping statistics for 192.168.0.2:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
Notice the line "Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0" - your packets are successfully getting from downstairs to upstairs and back again. If it worked, do the same on the machine upstairs, except this time you want to ping 192.168.0.1, as that is the address of the machine downstairs.
If both these work then both your computers are able to send and receive data from each other.
