Just bought Broadband, and I want to make two computers into a network so they can both be connected. How do I do this? Do I need Ethernet cards in both? Do I need a wire? How much is a reasonable price to pay for these?

First, bin zonealarm with extreme prejudice. It will comprehensive subvert any attempt at home networking. You may try and install/activate it again later, after you're sure the internet sharing works, but not before.

On the downstairs machine, do Start->Run->command, and then type in "ping 192.168.0.2". You should hopefully get more or less the following:

Pinging 192.168.0.2 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.2:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

Notice the line "Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0" - your packets are successfully getting from downstairs to upstairs and back again. If it worked, do the same on the machine upstairs, except this time you want to ping 192.168.0.1, as that is the address of the machine downstairs.

If both these work then both your computers are able to send and receive data from each other.

Do ipconfig on each machine and write the results here, see where we're at.

Try a reboot then :O[

I'm going to go radio-silent for the next 1/2 to 1 hour (or maybe more, depending on where my gf takes me!) Keep the faith luke!

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
