It was a diocesan Day for all the Catholic schools in the diocese to join together.
And now why didn't that surprise me :¬) The old 'Diocesan Day Out' excuse ... dear me
Nearly mentioned that earlier but thought better of it.

Another 'day out' methinks? Or was it 'motivational for Staff and Governors in this time of great educational despair' ha ha :¬D

Out today at an inset day at the school. Well, it actually involves a trip to Plymouth rather than our school...
In other news...
Just been trying out Onlive, which went live today. It's basically a system that lets you play games from any PC or Mac (later iPad) by streaming the game from a high end PC through a server to your computer.
This means that your computer doesn't need to be really fast or powerful, because it's technically only receiving video and sending commands from the keyboard, mouse or joypad. It also means no install bar the Onlive software. It works surprisingly well, even on my 2.5-3mbps connection.
If you sign up now you get your first game (to keep) for £1, including Dirt 3 and Deus Ex among others. It's a good deal and even if you don't want to pay you can still play demos of loads of games. There's also the option of a £6.99 a month fee for 100s of games to play unlimited each month.
In Japan there are addicts everywhere. They finish work and head straight for a pachinko parlor (which are everywhere) and spend everything they've just earnt and more. You win by collecting tokens and trading them back for cash down some dark alley.
"Cashback this weekend
You still have plenty of time to join in with this month's Cashback. All you have to do is enter promo code SEPTEMBER. Start on 15% and gain an extra 2% for each day you stake £5 or more on any Sky Vegas game (before midnight Friday 23rd September). To qualify you must then play over the Cashback weekend of Sat 24th + Sun 25th September. Cashback bonuses will be calculated on net losses, bonuses will then be credited on Tuesday 27th September."
Doesn't seem to be encouraging anything 'responsible', in fact the complete opposite :¬)
