If a staff member has any time, I've highlighted all the reviews since 23rd August which shouldn't be in the review forum (ie. Plagiarised content, one-two-three liners, posted links etc.). Just thought I'd try and tidy it up a bit. If I have any more free time, I will gradually begin to sift through all the reviews in the forum and try and keep it a neat archive full of useful stuff.

Oh dear DL - I actually had a malicious piece of malware on my computer about a week ago. Luckily had everything backed up and needed a computer sort out, so just deleted the infected profile. No problems with it since, but it did cause an absolute lockdown to my profile, taking me to a website trying to sell me malware removal. All gone now (I hope).

Sorry to hear about your redundancy last year - my stepdad is about to be out of work also, when his contract runs out in June. He is a bit worried about the future, especially as there seems nothing out there at the moment!

Congratulations on the news that you are soon to be a grandfather! Really pleased! Hope all goes well and look forward to hear about the arrival!

As for the course, all is fine. Halfway through the degree part now and just in the process of finding a pre-registration position for the 4th year of my education. It's proving difficult! Managed a first last year though and do postgraduate teaching to some of the post-grad students/lecturers on what I used to do at the eye hospital - so that all comes in to my favour. Also have my blog on the profession association's website. Hence explaining why I have been so busy that I've neglected to drop back here as often as I should have.

Hopefully I'll stay a little longer this visit ;)

Sooo...any gossip?

@Hmmm

According to a couple of YouTube videos I watched regarding the removal and its severity, it was suggested that I could have been infected for at least a week! The site I visited after lunch yesterday was one I use for Mrs DL's music requirements - 7 Digital. Never been a problem with them before, but if it had been dormant for a week, I can't remember! I know that it is one of the worst I've come across for locking everything down from the start!

@pete

Used SpyDoctor (trial) to 'find' the files in question, even though I'd eventually managed to find them manually, due to all the 'lockdowns' - any program you open becomes a security window claiming it's a trojan. Then into Safe Mode with Networking and manually 'out the little blighters'. Back into 'Normal Mode' and ran Kingsoft PC Doctor (free and quite good), just to be sure. Then re-install AVG Internet Security. Time consuming but I got there! This was Vista64 bit.

It seems malware is on the rise at the moment!

I can highly recommend Malwarebytes to clean things up. (Free version!)

I had an emergency call from one of my clients this week whose PC was in a right state. Malwarebytes along with an 'unhide' program linked to in their FAQ/Troubleshooting forum thread did the job nicely :¬)

They got infected innocently enough by a 'drive-by' virus.
So they didn't click any dodgy links or download any infected software but were just unlucky enough to visit a website that had been 'injected' with some malware!

I found one of my own charity websites had been infected with an iFrame injection 'nasty' a couple of weeks back and it even tried to infect me!!!

Needless to say this is one of the few non-Freeola sites I maintain. The hosts had failed to keep up with required maintenance etc. :¬( Looking at Twitter I could see others had also had the same problem with them.

Do you know how you got infected DL?

@pete_21 I'll take a look at 'ERD Commander' as it sounds interesting, thanks.

Obviously anyone foolish enough to give their card details to this 'programs' creators is going to get stung for a lot more than $99. I reckon some people must do it though or there would be no point in programs like this being written. I have had to remove similar malware from a couple of systems (none of my own) and they can be stubborn little things to get rid of in my experience. The last couple of times I used the system rollback feature on a program called ERD Commander (boots from CD) and this did the trick but I think this may only work on Windows XP?

Evening all ... glad to see that the Quiz is now gaining entrants :¬)

Just spent the best part of this afternoon eradicating 'Security Shield 2011' malware from my machine (how embarassing). Machine ok before lunch, bite to eat and then infected!!!
(Note to self: don't eat lunch again)

Hey, I'm back, and just submitted a walkthrough to the site!

Glad to see everyone still doing well around here. I am also now the proud owner of an Android tablet and phone, and can be proudly added to the camp of "still getting my head around it" Ha!

Might have a crack at the quiz as well, though last years stumped me and this seems even tougher. I'll go locate my thinking cap.

Hi pb,

With Android you aren't tied to anything like iTunes so companies can let you have the apps direct from them.

You just need to select the following option before you install their app:
Settings > Applications >
Unknown sources (Allow installation of non-Market applications)

Thanks Hmmm.

Only ever used the Android Market and Getjar in the past on other phones. I've already changed those setting for Getjar, so should be fine. Will leave the rest up to the PR companies.
