I really hope I can get back to playing games all day like I used to soon. The last 3 days have been better than what I've felt the last 2-3 weeks so there is that I suppose.
The fact that there is already a prize up for grabs for interesting new threads, and the fact that this offer is rarely taken should be enough to prove that demanding new posts/ threads on the forum for all the other prizes would actually be damaging.
Interesting new threads? Sounds more like an essay writing contest. The criteria for winning via posts has always seemed a bit strange to me. At least its not a criteria thats going to foster any sort of community desire to post in my opinion.
I was going to post about football here, and then realised I should go over to the football thread. See you over there :-D
Ok. Nix that idea then, but can we at least agree that finding a focus for the forum to encourage new posters may be a good idea?
Or perhaps we could push a few of the top reviews to a main hub page (http://cheats.freeola.com/gaming/) with the odd piece of latest gaming news and the links to forums pushed down a bit.

As I've said before, I reckon the ideal situation would be that reviews, cheats and walkthroughs should be picked from users who provide at least the minimum level of posts a week, otherwise you just get people coming in, posting a review or walkthrough or, worse still, pasting a bunch of cheats from GameFAQs and leaving again. Encouraging them to stay and chat will re-build a much needed community spirit and would be encoraging them to stay and join in.
What you're effectively doing though is raising the bar for winning. Cheats/Walkthroughs/Reviews are this section's "life blood". You cant reduce the incentive to submit those things. Active forums would be nice, but they arent a requirement I think.
Right again, Dr. Garin...

If only things were different..
Well done Pb, another excellent review..
I guess it is, in part, just my personal wishing that the site found more of an identity as a community. It's difficult to build this around an ISP (however good their service is) because not many people are going to discuss Internet connections, and even then just from one supplier.
The idea was to push the focus back to games as a theme for the site and that may, in turn, lead to gamers finding that Freeola can supply their Broadband.
I'm ready to admit that there might be flaws in my thinking, though.

Afternoon, just thought I'd mention -
There doesn't look to have been any submissions for the GAD prize tomorrow yet. If anyone is interested, submitting game cheats, a good game walkthough, or game review before the end of today would make you eligible.
I do think we need to try and encourage more chat posts though to keep the forums going, The awards say that Thursday's prize can be awarded for chat, so it's worth maybe making this clearer.

But then what to I know? ;)
