Morning.

Well, today didn't quite start as planned. Turned off the alarm and went back to sleep, so now working from home instead of going in to the office.

I'd love a new PC, but I'd probably just get a desktop and then get an Apple laptop. My current desktop has probably had as many upgrades as it can take now and I'd have to replace the whole thing. With all these Steam sales on at the moment (GTA collection for £4.99 including IV and the 2 add ons, Batman collection, Star Wars collection...) it would be great to be able to play more than 50% of the decent games.

Current desktop is a Dual2Core 4600 with 3GB RAM (max the motherboard can take) and an ATI Radeon 4650 (1GB).

Morning everyone,

Ah, the HP Pavilion, the one I'm actually looking at is the i5 version of the same laptop (1369-ea if I remember correctly [which now seems unavailable]). The touch pad is a bit weird, but it does have a lock function if you need it.

Still seems a decent spec machine for the cash, the processor in that laptop does seem to have a significantly lower rating on cpubenchmark.net than the i7 in my Acer though. Not really sure what you can read into this as there does seem to be a large difference in the number of votes? I would imagine the actual difference is probably nothing like as great as these figures might suggest.

It means it tries to run its integrated chipset and its discrete gfx in a kind of crossfire/sli type configuration. A bit of a strange idea if you ask me, but there you go.

What does dual graphics mean? Does it have a card or does it use integrated graphics?

That's the exact one I got HP Pavilion G6. Really is a quality machine for under £400. Going to buy a 360 control pad. Feels like I've got a portable Xbox with the graphics. Can't wait to play this baby on the train to college in September while everyone else is staring out of the window! Battery life's not too bad either. Could get 2/3 hours out of F1 on battery power before it started to die. Only quibble is the touchpad. It's a sort of dotted pad that is really quite sensitive. While typing, I keep accidentally brushing it and it's moving the cursor and clicking so I'm typing somewhere else. Just takes a bit of getting use to is all (of course you could disable the pad and buy a USB mouse!)

Well I'm in the market for a laptop at the moment (will need one for the PhD studies) so I'd be interested in seeing what you got.

This is the nearest I could find for the price.

Got my first laptop a few days ago. Really happy with it. AMD A8, Dual graphics, 6GB SRAM, 750GB. £399. Absolute bargain, been playing Skyrim, F1, FIFA on High graphics. Ready to play Guild Wars 2 on it :-P Best budget gaming laptop out there.

That seems an awful lot of machine for the money Chris. I bought this one the other week, been very impressed with it but doubt it was worth £170 more than yours. I don't play games on PC's so can't really comment but tried a bit of video encoding on it and it seemed to handle that alright. Eurosport HD looks great on it too, which is mainly what I use it for.

Nice find mate, it would appear that I am no longer the bargainmeister around these parts! :)
