I agree with DL (except the part about the medallion and pulling the birds^^). Actually used to dislike going out New Year's Eve, amazing how many "close friends" you acquired at midnight. Couldn't do with the fakery. Did use to love working behind the bar on that night though, that was great fun.

Now I end up dog sitting anyway. Bull Mastiff is terrified of the noise :)

Last year we ended up paying £40 for a taxi home, when the one we booked weeks earlier either didn't turn up or got piked by someone else. This year our local pub wanted £25 per person just to walk through the door and that's before offering you the privilege of being mugged at the bar.

Why do you have to spend a lot to have a good time? Each person in our party spent less than £30 and had a great time.

It's all relative. Those of us that aren't overly keen on nights out down the town would waste their money, others who love it will enjoy the New Year celebrations out with friends and they'd be happy to pay over the odds for the experience.

Other ways to save money;

Get rid of the TV - save a licence fee and electricity.

Turn off the lights and go to bed when it gets dark instead.

Never go outside unless you're being paid to.

Don't wash. Think of all the water you'll be saving.

Walk around naked, it will mean your clothes get less worn because they're worn less.

Happy New Year everyone. I did catch the Thames firework display on TV, it did look quite pretty though even if it did seem to go on a bit.

CBA with New Years Eve, the money you have to spend to go out can get you a much better experience most other times of the year.

CBA with CBA pete! Do you mean that it's too expensive to venture out to local hot spots to enjoy the forthcoming start of a new year, only to discover that your local pint of smooth now costs you the price of a good second-hand car? Happens everywhere!

It's all relative and the 'New Year' thingy is only relevant to those under the age of 25 and single, those couples without offspring and anyone the wrong side of 40 who hasn't really admitted that their medallion doesn't still 'pull the birds'. Stick with it pete, you'll have a better life :¬)

I always find it disturbing knowing I could have been about ten feet away from a Freeolite

I also once thought I saw you on a bus in Brighton Chris but it wouldn't have been you... Could it?[/i]

I've never been to Brighton, so no, it wasn't me. I was opposite the OXO building, right behind some boat. Could barely see a thing.

Afternoon and Happy New Year (officially).

Just waiting for dinner now and trying to work out exactly where youngest daughter's 3DS has gone. It has to be in the house as she hasn't been out since Saturday.
