They'll have to come up with something good to keep up. Like Apple they're trading on the brand now. Last few Galaxys haven't been that amazing and HTC and even Google with their partners are overtaking them. It's incremental updates that are the problem.

The remastered Bluray of the original has just come out, supposed to be stunning. I've got the trilogy on DVD from a long time ago. Got them in Spain so can't trade them in, but maybe I'll get the Bluray in July for my birthday. The new film will get watched if someone else gets it and I borrow it.

I'm always intrigued by and slightly suspicious of old films on Bluray, I wonder how much of an improvement can possibly be made.

But then I was bought "Blazing Saddles" on Bluray for Christmas, and, quite honestly, wow!

You can actually see the beans....

Simple. The quality of film used for cinema is higher than HD, so going back to the source gives you that quality.

Now 4K is a different matter as (I believe) film is less than 4K quality, so possibly no point in re-releasing old films in 4K Bluray without some digital jiggery-pokery.

Not a classic by any means and unlike the original I doubt many will even recall its existence in 25 years time but it could have been a hell of a lot worse. As a Sci-Fi action flick it's enjoyable enough nonsense, especially when you try not to compare it to the original.

And that's kind of where my problem with it is...

How do you NOT compare it to the original?

I can remember going to the cinema to see the "real" Robocop when it first came out, and being the only one in there laughing like a loon at that cheesy tongue in cheek presentation. Don't think they'll ever better it, and in fact to my mind, it's like a fine wine, it gets better with age. Being a little dated just adds to the cheesiness.

I'll give the new one a go eventually, but I just know I'm going to be comparing, and for that reason I'm likely to be disappointed.

I don't think I'd go to see it at the cinema, but I'm certainly interested to see how it has turned out. I'm not convinced it needed remaking, though.

Went to see it on a whim, we went for something to eat and popped into the cinema to see what was due to start, fancied a popcorn flick so went with that. I wouldn't recommend rushing out to the cinema to see it and agree although the original does look quite dated these days it probably didn't really need remaking. The thing is it's not really all that much of a remake, it's a very different film to the original. Apart from the odd quip paying homage to it this film pretty much does its own thing, I thought this concept generally worked. Went to see the RoboCop reboot tonight, it's not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination although I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would.
