Daytime running lights have to be fitted to all new models of cars sold in the EU since about 2011. The thinking/science behind them is they catch your eye and thereby make the car more visible. The daytime running lights can usually be turned off via the dash controls or by using the manufacturer's diagnostic equipment, at the moment they don't have to be on during the day. They should turn off when dipped beam is turned on.

Afternoon.

Waiting for the bus and trying not to sweat too much. I'm sure the bus will be more comfortable and not at all like an oven...

In 'light' of the headlight talk, I thought I would add that I had a hire car after some kind gentleman added his custom style to the cosmetics of my car. The hire car had automatic lights but I found they seemed to be on all the time regardless of how bright outside it was. It seemed a bit excessive to me.

Morning.

Nice start to the day. Pity most of it will be spent in an office.

It does seem a bit odd.

I mean, if you can't see a car in daylight, with or without headlights, you really shouldn't be driving!

The AA does suggest this:

"Daytime running lights must be bright enough that they can be seen clearly in daylight and as a result are too bright to be used at night time when they would cause dazzle."

I'll agree with you, far too bright and an unecessary drain on an already 'over worked' battery! (In my opinion, contary to other claims)

'Day light' running lights on most new cars over the last few years now pb. Totally useless but unless you remove the fuse, as an owner, you are stuck with them! Light sensitive I believe is the term?

Blame Volvo (or Sweden)

Anyway, busy weekend what with having to wait for new car battery before doing everything yesterday and then no time to stop and sit down today.

I might be going to work to relax tomorrow! I have a free hamburger as well to use up, so maybe I'll do that at lunch time.
