Jeez Louise. Sounds like you've had a pretty rough weekend, DL. I hope it all works out ok for you and yours.
If there is anything I can do in the somewhat limited role of "just met on the internet and don't really know you" then let me know. =)
Very much appreciated altaranga, just talking about it does help.
The news this morning was that his wires and final drain have been removed and that he could be discharged tomorrow ...

I can imagine that it takes a lot to get over a major medical procedure like that, so hope he can find something to do while recovering to take his mind of things.
Glad to hear that he's improving well, though. I'm sure he'll be pleased just to be home.
Thanks again pb ... I've just reminded him of his age and therefore his recovery time. Most people in that unit are a good 30 years older! We are looking at Thursday for discharge, but as I said earlier, the game then begins. We will become 'carers' for at least the next 3 months (not that we haven't been for the last 29 years!), but 'carers' who have no knowledge of what to do at the moment, except to follow the provided guidelines. It'll be fine, but changes will have to be made.

Son's stats have now been stable (normal) for the last 24 hours without the PACE but the wires are still attached for precaution. His chest cavity drain is still in place, but all being well, both will be removed tomorrow.
He's fine in himself and has walked around the ward complex many times. He now wants to come home!
However, then begins the long wait! For the first 6-8 weeks at home he can't do even the most usual tasks ie lift a kettle of water, he cannot carry anything heavier than 10lbs and even this has to be balanced. This is to assist the breast bone to heal. The cut is from neck to just above the stomach and sealed with glue not stitches, to prevent scaring. So home time is only just the beginning ...
Quite pleased that I managed to get the kids up and dressed and still let them watch 20 minutes of TV before school. Hope I can follow the same pattern tomorrow.
Up early to get everything ready for the kids to go to school, so should crawl up to bed now.
Now seems all is well?
