Yeah they are JPEGs, but I suspect they are compressed at 100 quality, or at least very high, as I took them all on fine. I've switched my camera to standard now though. I may recompress them. However, note the server is very slow, and you're only getting 8kb/s download, from it, so they appear larger than they are I assure you.

No the slot fan draws air from around the graphics card. The air that blows out is very warm so I suspect it's doing something useful. It's not loud.
