The trailer made it look good but I suspect I will want to kill all of the main character within 5 minutes as with most of Weed-on's garbage.

It should do. From what I've been told, the movie is going to gently introduce the main characters again so that people who are new to the Firefly stuff will pick it up quickly whilst not irritating the existing fan base. The eventual aim (I guess and hope) will be that the film will increase the popularity of the show, allowing them to bring back a new series.
