Albums of the Year:
Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
I'd only been briefly introduced to them before, but on the first listen of this little beauty, I was hooked. Pure rock fury, and no mistake.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way
Not exactly what I was expecting (by the first single), a more chilled-out, surfed-up approach from the Chili Peppers. After a few listens it really grows on you, definitely one of my most listened LPs of the year.
Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head
Call them indie bedwetters if you want (and you no doubt will) but this album is mature, well written and brilliantly performed, I'd kill to be able to write songs and sing them like this. Excellent.
Jurassic 5 - Power By Numbers
Only got it 2 weeks ago, it's already taken up permanent residence in my car. Proper style hip-hop, none of that poncy malarkey, full of scratchy break beats and drum stuff. Very excellent.
Also worth a mention... Primal Scream - Evil Heat, DJ Shadow - Private Press, The Datsuns, The Strives/Stropes/Hikes etc.
Just one song of the year - All My Life, by the Foo Fighters. If the rest of the album was as good as that song, it'd be the best album ever. Really. Now you talk.
RHCP - By The Way: an absolutely cracking album. No doubt about it.
Lifehouse - Stanley Climbfall: stunning album. I have to agree with Stryke, not as good as No Name Face. (Oh yeah, and I'm seeing them on Wednesday, so na ne na!)
Counting Crows - Not as good as Satellites or August, but I did enjoy it.
Sugababes - Angels With Dirty Faces: OK, stop your laughing in the back. Now go and listen to this album, then come back and apologise. This is a GREAT album.
Michelle Branch ~ Spirit Room
Christina Aguilere ~ Stripped
Leann Rimes ~ Twisted Angel
Noriah Jones
Celine Dion ~ A New Day
Bought a fair bit of anime soundtracks as well this year, and I can't remember the rest, tis gettig late...
~~Belldandy~~
Lifehouse's Stanley Climbfall is, simply, amazing. Lifehouse are STILL highly under-rated in Britain, and anyone with ANY legitimate musical background (anyone who can appreciate musical styles they may not particularly enjoy), will agree that it is truly sensational.
Anyone who bought No Name Face will LOVE this. A definate top-priority purchase if you like something a little different from the Rock scene.
> Your friends with Mcklusky. Cool.

> Stryke, what bland taste in music you have. Next you'll be telling us
> you like Doves and Coldplay and Turin Brakes and Badly Drawn Boy and
> Every other crap brittish bland band out there today. Cheer up you
> fools!

Seconded.
C'mon, did you really not expect me to put this?
Not one bad song (How can you not like, Goodnight LA, Stef?) and the cover of Big Yellow Taxi rules. Pity 1492 didn't make it on. Anyway, Black & Blue, best track on the album.
Lifehouse - Stanley Climbfall
Haven't actually got the album (Will have it sehr soon though) but have heard the majority of the tracks. All I can say is "wow". Simply some awesome awesome awesome music.
The Doves - The Last Broadcast
How could I not love the album that the band who did There Goes The Fear put out? Quality foot-tapping noddable singalong music that I never tire of.
Song of the year = Counting Crows - Black & Blue. Beautiful song.
Feeder - Comfort in Sound
I didn't think too much of this the first few times I heard it but it really does rule! The only below average song on it is Godzilla. Pointless noise doesn't suit Feeder. They're not heavy. They should just accept it. Track one is possibly one of my favourite Feeder songs ever.
------
Silverchair - Diorama
Not as good as any of their other albums (except poossibly Freakshow) but still really good. Much happier than all their other albums which, on some songs, can be annoying, but there are too many great songs on this album to ignore. 'After all these years' is absolutely fantastic. They may have ripped off the Sphere theme for the chorus but Sphere had good music anyway so I'm not complaining.
------
Muse - Hullabaloo
Half of it may be old songs and the other half may only be B-Sides but those B-Sides are better than plenty of other bands' A-Sides. And the live tracks rule. And the live tracks don't even include Muse's best 4 songs (Newborn, Bliss, Plug in Baby, Sunburn). Great album. Great DVD too.
------
Chili Peppers - By the Way
Not one bad song on it. And so many absolutely brilliant ones. Best album to date. Although I haven't heard the first 2 albums (they're in the room next door though).
------
Korn - Untouchables
Still trying to decide whether this is better than Follow the Leader or not. Whether it is or it isn't though, it's still a great album. And my favourite Korn track is on it too - Alone I Break.
I'm tempted to put Heathen Chemistry on the list too just because Oasis on the whole rule. But no, the album itself isn't good enough. Three tracks can't carry an album alone.
(By the way, they weren't in any order. I just did them as they came to mind. I know I'm missing one/some.)
