Why?
I just hope and end to it all is not too far away and that no more lives are taken.

Yeah you're right. Far more humane to have the allies fight their way inch by inch through Japan, laying waste to entire country, with day/night bombing raids, also takes pretty sick people to experiment on POW's, such as the infamous 731 (japanese) medical corps did. Agent Orange ? Fair cop, but that was war and this isn't. War is about taking decisions that cannot have happy outcomes for everyone - it takes greater strength to do something like the A bombs against Japan than it does to protest against their use. What the heck does this have to do with the sniper anyway ?

Stupid comment. Guns don't kill people on their own. Banning handguns in this country was one of the most ill-informed things the government ever did. Gun clubs up and down the country welcomed changes to gun law after the Dunblane massacre and offered several plausible changes but the government completely ignored them and just simply banned guns.
And what happened after that? Thousands of people lost their livelyhoods and even more lost their hobbies.

Here, here. Belldandy speaks with sense.
Bartender, if you don't know the facts then I would appreciate it if you didn't comment on a subject like this as it gets me extremely annoyed.
Your comments show a complete lack of understanding of what went on and it is blatantly obvious that you pay more attention to what gutter press like the Sun and Mirror have to say rather than actually reading up on it yourself.

i agree, it must also take some sick person to drop an atomic bomb on a highly populated city in japan. an equally sick person to spray the jungles of vietnam with agent orange, contaminating civilians water supplies. oh right, they were both american attacks. :)

The constitutional right to bear arms has more to do with the fact that, at the time, America was expanding towards the West of the country. Yknow, The Wild West ? Guns were an essential back then simply because, in places where there were no authorties, the gun gave power to settlers.
Gun's aren't the problem, people are. Even after Dunblane, and the legislation that followed, more people in Britain now illegally own firearms, whilst the number of legally owned firearms has gone down. Armed gun crime continues to spiral out of control in Britain, where owning a gun should theoretically be difficult, yet in America it's in a downward spiral, where guns are easy to obtain.
The Sniper ? It's not a she for starters, unless its someone breaking all the rules of criminology so far... I think it's got to the stage now where the only way to go is to deploy units of the National Guard - the only troops under the constitution that can do internal policing - set up checkpoints everywhere, and generally be highly visible, and hope they're in the right place at the right time. It'd mean some infringement of people's freedom, but to catch him it's got to be worth it.

Not quite, and perhaps more worrying, you can buy booze in supermarkets. To be fair, I've not seen firearms next to the vegetables but there you go. I did see a program last night about a bank in Michigan that offers a free gun as an incentive for opening an account.
There was something not quite right about handing someone a gun in a bank. Kind of asking for trouble, if you ask me.
Crazy world.
by the way i think he is a she, it was on the news.
