I am soon getting a new PC (Acer P4 2.4 Ghz, 512 DDR Ram, Geforce 4 64MB DDR, 16x DVD Drive, 48x/12x/40x CDRW drive, 80 GB 7200 RPM HD etc.). Its a real power house (and it comes with Windows XP Home Edition). Now I have been wanting for a long time to also buy a Next Gen console. I thought at first to get an Xbox, but now that I am rethinking it I think maybe a PS2 is better. Firstly because I own a PS1 and so when selling it its games won't go to waste, secondly 'cause the Xbox is mostly similar to the PC, and lastly because I want the console for jap rpgs (eg. Breath of Fire 5, FFs), western console games (eg. D&D Heroes, LOTR: The two towers, Wizardry on PS2) and beat em ups (eg. Tekken 4) and the PC for Western RPGS (especially D&D, eg. NWN and IWD2, but also eg. Morrorwind) and strategy games (eg. Warcraft3). So what exactly is the PS2's power? The Xbox is compared to a PC, but the PS2's engine is different and runs at 294 MHz (as well as with the auxilliary 38 Mhz PS1 engine for I/O). How does it compare in reality to the Xbox and a PC? I've heard its engine is the equivalent of a 700 Mhz PIII, ie like the Xbox. Is this true? As for the HD I'm not worrying about it (so don't use it as a pro for the XBOX), as shortly the PS2 hard disk will be available for purchase, nor am I worrying about the Broadband access (as I only have normal Internet access, and so instead I will view the PS2's ability to use it as a pro and also should I need it shortly the PS2 will be having a device that allows it Broadband access). The PS2's HD will cost as much as the Xbox DVD kit, so I believe that covers the difference, as the PS2 is DVD ready. Is the PS2 ideal for my console needs? I think so, but first I need to know how well it runs. I've heard its really powerful. Also will the PS2 have a mouse and keyboard available later for surfing the Net? Or is there one already? What do you guys say?
On to the next point, is Nina in Tekken 4 boosted? She is my fave Tekken3 character (for her looks, strength, musclepower and moves). I really want to use her in Tekken 4, but is she still good? I heard Anna has been ditched and the game has been balanced well so has Nina absorbed Anna's moves and is she improved?
Finally is Wizardry for the PS2 good? What about Elder Scrolls 3 for the PC? What are FF11 and 12 all about? Is FF10 any good?
All input will be greatly valued. See you next week mates.
You'll be suprised. :D
Oh, and Morrowind is probably the most open ended, offline game you'll ever play - there's a gell of a lot to do, and you'll probably find yourself spending ages even in samll towns.
> How much will the PS2 HDD cost? More than 30 quid? Or less???
I'd imagine quite a lot more if it's going to be released in the near future. It's going to be about 40gig, at the moment the cheapest 40gig hard disk drives I'm seeing are about £50. BUT you have to bear in mind this will be a Sony product, and something only Sony can make, so the price will be bumped up.
I'd imagine about £70.

Hell no! And I mean no offence to you by that. The Gamecube has almost no games I would like. They are all too nintendoish. :p All the games I want are on the PS2. The Xbox has one or two, but the PS2 has most of the ones I want on it or coming out soon. Plus the PS2 will also have those that I wanted on the Xbox (D&D Heroes, LOTR 2 and 3) and much more (Tekken 4, FFs, Drakkan and the list goes on and on!)! The only game I really wanted on the Xbox was Elder Scrolls 3, but as I am getting a new powerhouse PC, its best that I get it for the PC, as its better and more expandeable on the PC. Thanks for your advice anyhow, it helped.
Well cheers to you all, see you later! Can't wait to get my PS2! :D Are you guys happy with your PS2s?

and that would be the PS2. PS2 has the most games I want and like. The PC will cover games that the PS2 doesn't get.
How much will the PS2 HDD cost? More than 30 quid? Or less???
Anyway thanks for your advice. See you around. :)

Hmm.. thanks mate for your advice. I'll take it into consideration. As long as the games are better and there isn't a huge difference in graphics (and from what I've seen PS2 graphics are exquisite) I will definitely take the PS2 over the Xbox. My mind's made up, I'll get the PS2.
Cheers.
Just buy the one that has the most games you like the look of. Maybe write on a piece of paper the games you want for each system and see which has more.
There's no point worrying about specs.
It has more good games in my opinion, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.
But PS2's got one hell of a few months coming up : )
