Just saw this at Planet Xbox:

It’s the announcement we all knew would come at X02, European Xbox Live details. Announced this morning in a press release, Microsoft announced first and foremost that Telewest Broadband had joined forces with them as a broadband network provider for the European launch of Xbox Live. In addition to the team-up announcement, it was revealed that Xbox Live beta testing for the region will include 3,000 gamers in the UK, France and Germany from October 30th to November 30th. This all comes before the service unrolls itself on March 14th 2003.
When released, Xbox Live will retail for £39.99, and it will include the communicator, necessary software and two free games. Stay with us for more news throughout the day.

TWO free games you say? Excellent. As is the price. Only problem (for some) will be the wait until next March. Seems like it's being released over here a year to the day after the console - Same as in the US.

For me it's good that it's not out for a while. It'll mean I won't be missing out on as much as I can't get broadband 'til I've finished my degree and got my own place.

Wonder what the games are though. US gets a version of Re-Volt. I guess we'll get that and something else. I doubt they'll be two full games though. Maybe just a demo version of Unreal Championship or something as the second game?

Thoughts?

Even if you don't have broadband couldn't you just get the package for the free games? Or will those games be Xbox Live only?

The package sounds great - the extra game is probably to make up for the fact we'll be left with the longest wait.
X-Box Live will no doubt work with all the major broadband connections so I don't think anyone needs to really worry.

A little gutted over the wait, but it'll be worth it. Maybe some of the shops will do a midnight opening for the packages. ;-))

I just got this from digital spy:

Consumer beta tests of 'Xbox Live', which allows gamers who own a Microsoft Xbox gaming console to play with other owners of the console over a broadband internet connection, are set to commence on Telewest Broadband from October 30, the company announced today.

-----------------

Seams to imply that Telewest Broadband users will be doing beta testing :(
what about us on BT?

I was hoping for a pre Christmas launch not nearly 6 Months. The 2 free games sound good I think we will get the same Re-Volt game as the US did. The other game may be a special version of one already out, maybe an online only Halo (I know where probably not going get it, but you never know). My only concern is why Telewest Broadband, will people like me with BT broadband be able to use the service?
