Ok, this is sort of on-topic here but not related to Rosalind's situation.

Porno.
It's a fact of life and has been around ever since we painted on cave-walls. I promise you that UG & OG got bored with drawing buffalo and scribbled a naughty pic of Mrs IG and UG & OG.

I don't understand the big deal with it myself. I was allowed to look at porno mags from the age of about 14, initially I thought "Cool!" but got bored of them after a while.
Why?
Illicit thrill - exactly what has upset Ros. It's not looking at naked people, it's the thought that you shouldn't be. It adds a dimension to it, spices it up if you like.

But why should that be an "illicit" thrill.
Can someone explain what exactly is wrong, in any context, about an adult watching/looking at pics of other consenting adults engaged in an ancient pastime?
It's not like I'm trying to watch execution videos, I'm indulging in a passive enjoyment of an act most of humanity pursues/thinks about with a fervour unmatched since Gold Rush Fever.

I like porno. I don't have to look at it every day, but if I want to then sure,I'll log on to a site and have a go.
*claps hands to face*
Oh my god, he's admitting to masturbation! Right, like I'm the only person on this planet to do that.
"But it's wrong/dirty" - why?
What is wrong with a little jolly when I feel like it? It's not like I have a tug on a bus or at the cinema.
It's a perfectly normal reaction - to be exposed to pornographic material is to stimulate a response.

That's the entire point of it.
You can keep your Channel 5 "Erotic Drama", if I want plot or acting then I'll go watch The Godfather.
There are times, and I'm sorry kids, when I just want to watch a couple of people making each other very, very happy.
Where's the guilt in that? Anyone?

But why is "hardcore" sex so frowned upon in today's society?
Why can I go to the Warnervillage Cineplex and watch a film about a serial killer that offs teenage girls, yet I cannot go to a similar place and watch a man and woman (or man & man/woman & woman if that's your thing) indulge in primal pleasure?

And if you follow that ancient argument about "Imitating what you see", I'd rather people went to porno movies and came out horny as hell instead of having just watched a movie where a guy has slaughtered 12 girls.
Especially with the recent horrors of murdered girls.
Why am I allowed to watch a fictional version of that for entertainment, yet I can't watch two adults murdering nobody/blowing no buildings up/kicking nobody in the head?

Porno is harmless. It promotes warm, sexy feelings. Explain why that is a bad thing?
I'm not going to delve into child-porn, just as a discussion about movies would not venture into snuff movies.
I'm talking about 2 (or more) adults, enjoying each other and everyone getting paid and going home for a nice meal.

But it envokes sniggers and gasps from people.
It's just sex.

I think if more people watched porno than Scream 20, we'd have a much more relaxed world.
With rubbish perms and moustaches, granted - but you cant have everything.

How do you work that one out, when it's had no effect on street crime in Australia, Holland and elsewhere?

True.

But quite how we've got from me saying "I like porno" to "declassifying drugs is racist" is beyond me.

Porno is good.
Dope might be good, I wouldn't know
Dope then porno is bad, because you just want some twiglets and some sleep

Er.. its a forum, which means we don't have to agree with what you put... shouldn't post stuff if you don't want to see people disagree !

Christ who let Captain Chuckles into this one?

It's a discussion about why Porno is a good thing.
Not the legal benefits of legalising prostitution.

Go start your own thread before this turns into another noble (but dull) point/counterpoint.

I promise you, if Dubya invited Hussein over to watch a skinflick?
War over 20 mins later.

Simple.

Look at it like this then;

Prostitution is illegal because the law says it is.
Drugs are illegal becasue the laws says they are.

By legalising something you cannot control it better, it simply becomes more accessible.

Legalise drugs, any drugs, and street crime will go through the roof ? Why, because legal or not, those drugs cost money and a lot of crime is related to users needing money they don't have.

Same goes for the idea of legal prostitution. Make it easier to access and more people will access it, those that wish to stay outside the law will do so more easily and will still exist, and by legalising it there will be more people who want things not allowed by law.

Like the quest for legalisation of class C drugs, any idea of legalising prostitution reeks of double standards, discrimination, and (certaily in the case of drugs) racism.

Not quite true. Australia does have a problem with underground prostitution, where the types of sex that should never be legal are in fact practiced. This cannot be controlled, and in fact probably wouldn't be as much a problem if prostitution as a whole weren't legal.

Laws only serve to keep in line those willing to obey them.
