Porno.
It's a fact of life and has been around ever since we painted on cave-walls. I promise you that UG & OG got bored with drawing buffalo and scribbled a naughty pic of Mrs IG and UG & OG.
I don't understand the big deal with it myself. I was allowed to look at porno mags from the age of about 14, initially I thought "Cool!" but got bored of them after a while.
Why?
Illicit thrill - exactly what has upset Ros. It's not looking at naked people, it's the thought that you shouldn't be. It adds a dimension to it, spices it up if you like.
But why should that be an "illicit" thrill.
Can someone explain what exactly is wrong, in any context, about an adult watching/looking at pics of other consenting adults engaged in an ancient pastime?
It's not like I'm trying to watch execution videos, I'm indulging in a passive enjoyment of an act most of humanity pursues/thinks about with a fervour unmatched since Gold Rush Fever.
I like porno. I don't have to look at it every day, but if I want to then sure,I'll log on to a site and have a go.
*claps hands to face*
Oh my god, he's admitting to masturbation! Right, like I'm the only person on this planet to do that.
"But it's wrong/dirty" - why?
What is wrong with a little jolly when I feel like it? It's not like I have a tug on a bus or at the cinema.
It's a perfectly normal reaction - to be exposed to pornographic material is to stimulate a response.
That's the entire point of it.
You can keep your Channel 5 "Erotic Drama", if I want plot or acting then I'll go watch The Godfather.
There are times, and I'm sorry kids, when I just want to watch a couple of people making each other very, very happy.
Where's the guilt in that? Anyone?
But why is "hardcore" sex so frowned upon in today's society?
Why can I go to the Warnervillage Cineplex and watch a film about a serial killer that offs teenage girls, yet I cannot go to a similar place and watch a man and woman (or man & man/woman & woman if that's your thing) indulge in primal pleasure?
And if you follow that ancient argument about "Imitating what you see", I'd rather people went to porno movies and came out horny as hell instead of having just watched a movie where a guy has slaughtered 12 girls.
Especially with the recent horrors of murdered girls.
Why am I allowed to watch a fictional version of that for entertainment, yet I can't watch two adults murdering nobody/blowing no buildings up/kicking nobody in the head?
Porno is harmless. It promotes warm, sexy feelings. Explain why that is a bad thing?
I'm not going to delve into child-porn, just as a discussion about movies would not venture into snuff movies.
I'm talking about 2 (or more) adults, enjoying each other and everyone getting paid and going home for a nice meal.
But it envokes sniggers and gasps from people.
It's just sex.
I think if more people watched porno than Scream 20, we'd have a much more relaxed world.
With rubbish perms and moustaches, granted - but you cant have everything.
Is it a bad thing when you start to recognise the same pics time and time again?
Its like:
*grabs crotch*
"hell yeah I have a purpose"
you'll only encourage all the
> fetishist filth that comes along with it.

That's what I mean about differing morals.
Whilst there are practices I certainly don't understand and do nothing for me, it's not my place to criticise another for wanting what they want.
And I need to stress I'm not talking about underage stuff, but that was around before porno so I'm not going to start debating that aspect of it.
I'm talking strictly consenting adults.
The "hype" about porno is perpetuated by the idea that it's "naughty".
The tee-hee factor of looking at something or doing something you shouldn't be. All part of the fun.
It's an old law, and not just applicable to porno.
You tell someone "Don't do that/say that" then there's the immediate thing of wanting to break that taboo. I think it's all about what is considered "acceptable" in society.
You look at old (and I mean 1920s) ideas of porno, a woman showing possibly a breast or even a thigh. Caused outrage amongst "society types", yet you see stronger before the watershed now.
I've used the example of Lady Chatterly's Lover by D.H Lawrence before, there were obscenity trials at the High Court when that book was published. Copies were burned in the street etc and it became one of the fastest selling bootlegged books ever (outdoing ever Harry Potter).
Now?
It's taught as part of English A level syllabus.
Times change, morals and attitudes change. What we consider "rude" today will, I think, barely merit a mention in 10 years from now.
It's all about removing the "snigger" factor. Get rid of the "Ummmmmmmmm, I'm telling!" aspect and you're left with something that barely merits discussion.
In the meantime, people will enjoy porno and everyone else will pretend they think it's immoral/disgusting etc.
> Why is (adult) prostotution ileagal?
More for traditional and religious reasons than anything else. But as Belldandy says, if you legalise it, you'll only encourage all the fetishist filth that comes along with it.

Why is (adult) prostotution ileagal?
It's questionable as to whether pornography is any more acceptable now than it was 50 years ago - maybe it's just easier to access "thanks" to the internet. There is a difference between the two.
Same goes for prostitution. Legalise it and all of a sudden you have a whole unopened bag of questions with no obvious answers. More importantly is it right to legalise something just because you cannot control it ?
The laws need to stay the same as they are, if anythign what we really need is tighter control over the internet.
~~Belldandy~~
Now, I'm old enough to buy them myself, and I've been exposed to programmes such as Kazaa for a while now... the excitement is gone
I could easily imagine that they have. Pornography is like so many others things in today's society that are governed by outdated laws, guided by Church of England. Yes even in today's so called 'Multicultural society our laws are based on the Christian religion and not any other nor any combination of religions.
Why are shops only aloud to open for retracted hours on Sundays and why are Saturdays not implied with the same laws, after all Isn't Saturday the Jewish day Of Sabbath, where of cause our christen day of Sabbath is Sunday, hence the sill restrictions.
Sorry for going slightly off-topic there but surly after years of oppression by the Church Of England, New laws should be passed not only to make Pornography more accusable and open but at the same time make Pornography more closed and restricted to those who Need protecting from it, our children.
If we had brothels, Prostitutes could be taken off the streets and save all the antisocial factors related to Prostitutes and Pimps. Designated areas should be set up in large cities where adult entertainment, in particularly Sexual entertainment can flourish without endangering our children or offending the traditional prudish British population. Can you imagine the "fun"a "Soho" quarter in Leeds, Manchester or Nottingham?
As for Video and DVD sales, why are they restricted to licence shops? Supermarkets sell alcohol and Cigarettes, which are proven to cause harm in large quantities. What's a damage is a large quantity of R rated Videos going to do tour health? (well apart form making you blind ;) )
The only positives I can currently see happening in the porn industry is that more licensed sex Shops are being aloud to open, channel 5 and sky one seem committed to show more "risqué" content than other channels and the police seem to be getting tough on the only unacceptable side of Pornography, paedophilia.
