Well...he it is.
Taken from ign.com
"September 20, 2002 - Last week IGNcube reported that Nintendo had cut its stake in UK-based development studio Rare, and that Rare had inked a deal to become a first-party software house for Microsoft. Today Nintendo made its half of the story totally official.
Earlier this morning Nintendo issued a press release stating that it had cut all development ties with Rare. The firm said it had sold its 49-percent share in the former second-party. Nintendo further explained that the decision reflected a restructuring move and a new partnership philosophy.
"Nintendo had the ability to continue its exclusive relationship with Rare, but in looking at the company's recent track record, it became clear that its value to the future of Nintendo would be limited," said Peter MacDougall, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America. "In other words, we passed on this opportunity for very good business reasons."
The Nintendo release went on to reiterate the fact that Rare software sales accounted for only 9.5-percent of Nintendo sales in fiscal year 2001 and only 1.5-percent in fiscal 2002.
Nintendo stated that it would retain the rights for all original properties including Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and Star Fox. It made no comment on whether or not Rare would retain the Perfect Dark and Conker's Bad Fur Day licenses.
The company said that game development is ever changing and that the selling of Rare will afford Nintendo more opportunities with other studios. "The disposition of this investment leaves us in a position to become even more aggressive in expanding our development capacity, both internally and externally," MacDougall noted. "Aside from several partnerships already announced over the past year, we are currently in similar talks with several other prospective partners around the world."
Finally, the release noted that though Nintendo's relationship with Rare has come to an end, Nintendo still respects the giant software house. "Although we declined the opportunity to continue our exclusive agreement with Rare, this announcement does not diminish our respect for their work or the past contributions they have made to Nintendo," stated MacDougall.
More as it develops."
BooHooNinties, WayHeyUs. :P
I can't wait for the "Nintendo don't need Rare/Rare are actally pretty crap" noncence that will spill from outraged nintendo fans.
and you Nintys, stop giving yourselves an even worse name. Sure probably lots of people are going to miss Perfect Dark and Kameo, but those games were (are) at least one year and two years away respectively. I'm sure you won't be missing them so much after this Christmas when GameCube will have recieved over 100 games, including (boring list).
I do read posts just not yours :)
Take it personally!

Oh looks it's Mr I don't ever read anyones posts properly and just post a reply saying that X-box is god and everything is crap.
You said it was the first to let you build your own car. I said you were wrong, and gave an example of a previous game where you could build your own car.
Somehow nothing I've said appears to justifiy your reply which consisted of having [yet another] dig at me.
Personally, I wouldn't run out and buy the likes of Banjo Kazooie. I would however love a Conker's Bad Fur Day on the X-Box as I loved the first game - I've always said I liked Conker's and it was the one reason that was making me consider keeping my GC when I had it.
Perfect Dark I would consider. Its not a game that has me crying with joy over any news of it being released, but I'd keep an eye on it.
Overall though, I'd be very happy about Rare coming to the X-Box as it would attract other audiences to the console. I'm not looking at the possible arrival of Rare as something thats just good or bad for me personally. In all honesty, as I just said - theres probably only 1 or 2 games they are known for that I'd love to own. But I know there are people that love their games. Plus the likes of Banjo games would add more numbers when it comes to games that will appeal to younger audiences. And before I'm slated, I'm not saying that Banjo can only be enjoyed by kids - I'm saying that on X-Box right now, more of the attention is on games that appeal more to older age groups (i.e - squad based FPS games, etc.)
Games like Blinx and Toejam & Earl 3 are on the way, so games such as Banjo would back these up nicely.
Its not so much Rare that had the kiddie image - its always been more directed at Nintendo as people see them as excluding older audiences.

Indeed. You don't.
But 50% of people out there never had a PSOne, and out of those people the ones that own a Gamecube could be very interested in playing it.
Oh and by the way, Racing Evoluzione is one of the most anticipated games of this year and if you had read anything about it then you wouldn't be coming out with silly comments.
Its like me saying, who needs Resident Evil on the GameCube, I have the PSONE version!

You can say the same thing about X-box fans. It wasn't too long ago that people were slating their crap, kiddy games now as it? But suddenly the Gamecube is crap because it doesn't have them anymore.

Oh please, you could build your own cars in Lego Racers for heavens sake.

This is what a lot of Ninties are saying. To be honest though, if this is the case, then how was a Perfect Dark sequel ever supposed to be a Halo beater ?
Afterall, if it were going to be made, wouldn't it be the half ar5ed staff responsible for the last poo levels of the original game that would be making it ?
Seems that the Ninties are very quick to change their tune about Rare at the moment. ;-)
