Just got this news via email from IGN Subscription! The email said:

"Finally the news has arrived, Nintendo has officially sold its share of Rare to Microsoft for just short of $400 million. Last year, Nintendo had the opportunity to purchase the company, and refused. Rare put up the for sale sign and was looked at by both Microsoft and Activision. Microsoft won the bidding war, and Nintendo has cut its ties with Rare."

"Star Fox Adventures is still due out on September 23rd, but GBA titles like Sabre Wulf, Diddy Kong Pilot, Donkey Kong: Coconut Crackers, and Banjo Kazooie are still an unknown. We are assuming that at least 1 or 2 of these are already finished, and should be released by the end of the year, if not early next year."

"This announcement will be made official at Microsoft’s X02 Europe event in Seville, Spain on September 24th. Ironically, it's the day after Nintendo ships Rare’s one and only GameCube title yet no one picked up on anything."

"Although Nintendo doesn't comment on rumors or speculation by the media, we can tell you that Nintendo spoke to us and said that they have made the decision not to request Rare to make any further exclusive games for the Nintendo GameCube. Although we're proud of our joint efforts with Rare over the years and have enjoyed our relationship with them, in fiscal year 2001, Rare accounted for only 9.5% of total Nintendo software revenue worldwide. In fiscal year 2002, that number declined to 1.5%. Therefore, in evaluating our investments in developers, as well as the financial benefits to Nintendo over the years, we've decided it's in Nintendo's best interests to focus on diversifying our portfolio of developers and projects elsewhere away from Rare."

The email also spoke that Perfect Dark ZERO will be an XBOX exclusive and as previously discussed the main character will change but the game Rare have been working on for the GameCube will be enhanced using extra Xbox features but the level designs will be kept as planned.

Oh well just another few games to add to the list of 32 :) at least they won't be out this year which will give me chance to rob a few banks etc!

Is this the end of Nintendo as we know it? Will the rumours about this being Nintendo's last console be coming apperent sooner than we expected? All will be revealed soon!!

I thought we were going to steer clear of picking apart each other's posts? Oh well, as you asked...

A sequel to Conker's I might consider, but generally, no I wouldn't bother with Rare games. I never bought a Nintendo machine to play any of them, so why would I be that fussed whether they were on Xbox or Gamecube?

Bah. IGN never send me the news. Instead they send me stupid advertisements like one about joining Marios clean up team (or something like that).

I agree Sav, a lot of my friends aren't into consoles, but around 7 of them are and the ones that got GameCubes have sold them today after I told them about the email of confirmation. Not only have they sold their GameCubes but Bill Gates has taken 1 of them under his wing and the other bought 3 Xbox titles with his money. The guy behind the counter in GAME also said how disappointed he was and how Rare fans will go over to the XBOX just to play their games! :D

I'll definatly be hoping for a sequel to Conker's BFD. As for Perfect Dark Zero, I'll keep an eye on it and see how it turns out. :-)

I'll watch out for other Rare titles too and see what they come up with.

Oh well thats good to see Wookie looking positive as usual! So you wouldn't buy Perfect Dark Zero and a new Conker Game then for the Xbox?

I don't know about you but all of my N64 were developed by Rare and they were all amazing games! Each to their own though, its only positive news anyway as I am a huge FPS fan so I won't need to get a GameCube for Perfect Dark Zero :D

The only AAA titles I liked on the N64 were developed by Rare and although I won't buy all of Rares games as there are already plenty on the Xbox that I want, it won't harm me to add 5 more games to my list of 32 :D

Oh goody.

Now I can not buy Rare games for my Xbox, which is far better than not buying them for my Gamecube!

I don't know how clever you are, but you don't seem to be showing it. Rare leaving Nintendo won't affect the GameCube at all. As the stats showed, last year Rare games only made up 1.5% of total games sold, and before that only 9.5%.

Nintendo declined to buy Rare, instead giving the money to Retro Studios and Silicon Knights, who together will release more Rare quality games a year than Rare do, like this year for example. Rare are only releasing Starfox Adventures, But from Retro and Knights come Eternal Darkness and Metroid Prime.

Nintendo won't lose any amount of quality games ^_^
