Hey there.

I was wondering about dual CPU systems:

1) Can you use differently rataed CPUs?

2) Can I mix my XP2000 with a 266mhz FSB and an XP3000 with a 333mhz FSB?

3) Can you set the FBSs differently? If so, I guess you need more than one DIMM, yes?

4) How does XP handle dual CPU, considering virtually zero software is compiled with multithreading?

Thanks.

The point is not to get one top of the range chip, but two! However, I may settle for a single XP3000. But.... multi CPU systems are so cool...

Yep they most certainly are but it all depends on what your actually using your computer for in the first place!

If all your doing is playing games then it's a complete waste of money but if you can afford to waste money then that's ok! If you want a decent system then I think you should invest in a high end top of the range dogs danglies XP or MP chip on it's lonesome and see what that does for your rabbit infested home/computer :D

To be fair, I don;t see the benefits of shelling out for all that much kit. You could spend the same amount of cash and get a really fast P4 system with excellent memory bandwidth, and you'd reap the benefits much, much more.

I used to work in a Computer Store and the only person who ever bought a multi-provcessor system was a guy who owned a recording studio and he was converting his place to a digital recording centre using a massively expensive multi-threaded digital editing suite program.

Easy, I just use a distribution like Gentoo and configure all my software to be compiled with multithreading support.

And when I use Windows, all the heavy stuff has multithreading anyway.

Yes but, Multithreading is only really cool when you've got the software that actually uses it. What's the point in spending a load of money on upgrading your computer for something that's never used?

If all your doing is just playing games, surfing the net, bit of spreadsheet work etc etc then there will be no difference in performance. If you are doing CAD or real heavy graphics work then fair enough go for the upgrade....so what exactly are you using it (the computer) for?

Done that when i unlocked my Xp1800+ very tricky but well worth it, although i havnt done it to SMP enable an xp chip but have read about it.

Blinked at this and went to check:
XP2000 - £70
MP2000 - £123

Of course, you can't buy from this company anyway.. ;)

For the price of one MP2000 you could get an XP2200 or 2400, depending on where you look..
