As Back to the Future DVD box set isn't going to be released here for a while now, I've had to change my ideas about what I want for my birthday from my good lady wife.

I was informed that you can get import Wavebirds for under £30, so I thought I'd ask her to get me one of those instead, as in my house it would sure come in handy.

As some of you know, I have two young children. Malibu will be 3 soon, Georgia is 1 and a half. If I play games during the day, the often trip over the controller lead. This is annoying. Wavebird will fix this.

However, I see problems with the Wavebird too. What happens when I leave it on the side, and Georgia picks it up? She'll hide it. A regular controller won't go any further than what it's plugged into, so they're safe, but how long before I misplace a Wavebird?

Still, I reckon it would be nice to have one.

It's not infrared at all. It uses radio signals. And some people might worry that, as you can use it up to 80 metres aay, there might be a time delay. But there isn't.

why would there be a delay?? its infra-red, same as changing over the channel by remote, no delay.

but the cables are long enough for most people, and unless you've got the worlds largest living room, and the worlds largest tv you wouldnt be able to sit far-away and still see the tv clearly enough to warrant buying a wavebird. or maybe its just for people who wanna be flash?

The point in the Wavebird, Boxcar_boy, is to allow gamers to sit wherever they feel more comfortable without the need for cable extensions and stuff. It also adds to safety so as you're not constantly tripping over wires.

It's definately worth getting atleast one - just as long as there's no time delay in the controls.

Actually, I'm going to patent that, so don't steal it without asking me
Wavebird Belt, patent pending. Watch out, I have a pitchfork.

Wavebird is great.
If you don't want Georgia to steal your £30 controller (why not?) then just put it up high, or make a special belt so that it is strapped to you at all times...

i really cant see the need for a wavebird, especially when you consider the length of the controller cables are longer than most consoles, and on top of that if its still not long enough why not buy cable extenders whicha re a lot less than a wavebird.

Okay it may look better without cables but i cant see how it can be that high on anyones "must have" list.
