Hi everyone.

I'll try and speak everyone's mind here... this has really gone crappy. Notables are symbols of power instead of just a little gold star saying "you're a damn fine writer/thinker/whatever".

People have suggested stopping the elections, voting out notables, and loads of stuff. I have a suggestion myself, which is why I want ALL notables in here.

I suggest every notable, all of us, gives up their status and goes back to being a regular. Clean the slate, truly.

Then? Who cares. They can have new elections if they want for people to have power symbols of their forums, or abolish it altogether. The good writers know who they are.

And what would happen then? We'd all be equal. We can talk about monkeys and games and whatever all the time, instead of having stupid bloody copularity pontests etc.

So, it's simple. NOTABLES ONLY. If you want this to work, just say your opinion on this, and state please if you want your status taken away from you.

This won't really work unless we all agree to it, so it's down to you. If you really need a gold name to prove to people that you're a good writer, then fine, keep your colour. Otherwise, if you'd rather stand out by your own personality, and you'd rather stand out by allowing people to judge you themselves, not just a group of people that think you're cool, or a group of people who assume you're cool because you have a gold name... then... please make yourself known.

As for me, I'm kinda fed up of being held high and mighty by the decisions of five people... because that's all it comes down to in the end. I will happily become a regular again.

Maybe we need a little education here.

People seem to think that notables DO have power, when we don't.

I wouldn't mind losing the colour, it's not like my topics would be clicked any less if I wasn't a notable, is it?

I mean, I'm sure I could generate 3 replies as a regular.

It is unique though, the notable system, and does make this place different.

And anyone that thinks the colour is urine coloured doesn't drink enough water.

Our position on this is that we don't give Notables any special powers on the forums (why does that sound funny?) and they don't get preferential treatment either, they're treated in exactly the same way Regulars, Newbies and JATs are. The only thing that separates them from other posters is that they are held in high regard by the community here on the forums. Yes, people go a bit spastic over getting their name a different colour, but if you look at the current list of Notables, aren't they really the best of the lot? There's no people who don't really belong there.

Besides, it's just a bit of fun every three months and it boosts our page impressions to high heaven ;P

Perhaps if you come to some agreement on this, we could have a look at the system again, but I think the majority of people on here are content with it.

I always though of notables being highlighted for their intelligence and contributions to the forum, to give them something for this. To throw it back in their face and say 'We don't like you' would be like asking for a christmas present back. If anything, that's not what should happen.

I want some of the Notables to say. Maybe we should just leave the ones we've got and for every new election do this:

Put the least favourite one up for eviction. If that notable gets the most votes, he stays Notable. If someone beats him, that person replaces him.

This is only a counter-measure, I'm personally happy just seeing a new one every 3 months, it's not too regularly and as long as it's just 1 new one each time it's good. Come on, has anyone who's really terrible at posting and really unfunny ever been elected?
