The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
I'll try and speak everyone's mind here... this has really gone crappy. Notables are symbols of power instead of just a little gold star saying "you're a damn fine writer/thinker/whatever".
People have suggested stopping the elections, voting out notables, and loads of stuff. I have a suggestion myself, which is why I want ALL notables in here.
I suggest every notable, all of us, gives up their status and goes back to being a regular. Clean the slate, truly.
Then? Who cares. They can have new elections if they want for people to have power symbols of their forums, or abolish it altogether. The good writers know who they are.
And what would happen then? We'd all be equal. We can talk about monkeys and games and whatever all the time, instead of having stupid bloody copularity pontests etc.
So, it's simple. NOTABLES ONLY. If you want this to work, just say your opinion on this, and state please if you want your status taken away from you.
This won't really work unless we all agree to it, so it's down to you. If you really need a gold name to prove to people that you're a good writer, then fine, keep your colour. Otherwise, if you'd rather stand out by your own personality, and you'd rather stand out by allowing people to judge you themselves, not just a group of people that think you're cool, or a group of people who assume you're cool because you have a gold name... then... please make yourself known.
As for me, I'm kinda fed up of being held high and mighty by the decisions of five people... because that's all it comes down to in the end. I will happily become a regular again.
Call me pathetic, but I was well chuffed when I was voted notable. Why? Because it meant that the majority of users on this site thought that I posted the best stuff out of all the regulars. That made me feel good.
Call me materialistic, or pathetic because its only an internet chat forum, but at the time it meant a lot to me. Now, however, it makes no difference and I don't even think of it.
I think that the vote should stand, as it (along with GAD) gives the incentive for newbies and regulars to try and post good stuff, as opposed to spamming their way to a level they want to get to.
However, I feel that it needs to be reiterated to all votes next time, that they shouldn't be voting for their friends, they should be voting for someone who's posts they look for, someone who makes the forum special.
Perhaps the current Notables need to set better examples. I've hardly been around recently. Neither has Wookiee, FM, Sniper, pb, Meka. Sheepy hasn't really posted anything except a couple of lines every so often about a walk he had at lunchtime and how he's peeeed off with his friends. Grix hasn't posted much other than those bloody poem things.
I haven't seen a single post by Pro Evo (but then I don't go in the PS2 forum). I've hardly seen anything by Rav. No major posts by er-no (just a couple of lines here and there), and not much by Ant. Goatboy has kept things going a bit, but even he hasn't been around much recently.
How are possible notables meant to know what Notable material is, when they never see any? I'm just as much to blame as the rest of the Notables, so don't think I'm lording it over you all.
Ach, maybe I'm just tired and speaking crap. Have a think and see what you come up with.
It's a bit sad, really, that some individuals seem to think that we somehow consider ourselves 'above' the other users. I have on three occasions been in heated discussion in the Xbox forum, when a certain person has mentioned that I'm 'throwing my weight around' simply because I'm a Notable. Funnily enough, it only seems to come up when you won't let someone "win" an argument!
But by removing the ability to become a notable you are taking away an incentive to write good posts, its not all about winning games, because games dont give you respect. And if i were a notable right now, and people were saying there should be no notables i would be up in arms.
Perhaps im too disillusioned about what being a notable means.
> Ban all the regulars. That'll sort it out.

Hoo har.
Indeed it would.
Notables vs Newbies.
> Everyone should be like Sheepy.
Nah
We'd all be dooommmed
> I p*ssed PERFECTLY CLEAR wee the other day. I was so proud.
You must have drunk a lot.
My opinion on the matter? I will be a Sheep and follow FM :)
> Everyone should be like Sheepy.

Yes, you should all be Scottish, and in 6th Year, and rule very much.
Like SHEEPY, which is also like me.
Huzzah!
Those stupid Robinsons advert and fizzy drinks both don't appeal to me in any way.
