"Notables only please"

Hi everyone.

I'll try and speak everyone's mind here... this has really gone crappy. Notables are symbols of power instead of just a little gold star saying "you're a damn fine writer/thinker/whatever".

People have suggested stopping the elections, voting out notables, and loads of stuff. I have a suggestion myself, which is why I want ALL notables in here.

I suggest every notable, all of us, gives up their status and goes back to being a regular. Clean the slate, truly.

Then? Who cares. They can have new elections if they want for people to have power symbols of their forums, or abolish it altogether. The good writers know who they are.

And what would happen then? We'd all be equal. We can talk about monkeys and games and whatever all the time, instead of having stupid bloody copularity pontests etc.

So, it's simple. NOTABLES ONLY. If you want this to work, just say your opinion on this, and state please if you want your status taken away from you.

This won't really work unless we all agree to it, so it's down to you. If you really need a gold name to prove to people that you're a good writer, then fine, keep your colour. Otherwise, if you'd rather stand out by your own personality, and you'd rather stand out by allowing people to judge you themselves, not just a group of people that think you're cool, or a group of people who assume you're cool because you have a gold name... then... please make yourself known.

As for me, I'm kinda fed up of being held high and mighty by the decisions of five people... because that's all it comes down to in the end. I will happily become a regular again.

Totally agree with you there. I certainly know I don't get on the net as much as I like, but when I do I always try to come up with something substantial rather than just a series of replies, which is why you won't find me high on the top posters list most of the time.

If a purple Grix writes more Amneshire...


Seriously though, the notable system gives the forum character.
Everyone knows that the Notables aren't "extra-powerful" (or if they are, they were just as powerful before they were elected).

It's just a bit of fun, and it's not like anyone takes it seriously.

I think that people should stop making a big fuss about it all.

I'm more concerned at present with the distinct drop in quality of posting since the whole "vote me!" spam affair, and thats not saying much for the forum, given that before that it was mostly spam anyway.

I don't see any reason why the notable system should be abolished, I don't pay it much heed at present anyway, I'm quite capable of deciding which posters "make" the forums without having to be told who does and who doesn't. The only reason I can see for people griping about things, is that they're bitter they weren't made yellow themselves, and thats never a valid reason. While it is true that there are a few Notables who do hold slightly too high an opinion of themselves, theres still no cause to strip ALL notables of their status, a good ego-knocking reply to one of their full of it posts would work just as well.

Can we please start seeing some interesting topics again? It's starting to get boring in here. :P

Actually, been thinking about this, why should we go purple?

As FM said, at the time we were voted in it was a thank you from SR and the users of the forum. You don't take back thanks.

And the idea of removing notables that don't post as much anymore. No. so what if we don't post as much as we used to? It's not as if notability gives us any more power, is it?

I really don't give a stuff if some illiterate idiot doesn't get the concept, and thinks it's unfair, that's THEIR problem, not mine.

The whole thing is becoming like a soap opera. Maybe we should stop worry about the colour of our names, and just keep doing what we do. Posting topics, reading threads, replying to others. Discussing, arguing, and enjoying it?

Excuse me, when I post topics that are serious they go into Prime or Life/Music forums. Last topic I posted on gaming won. What more do the upcoming members want as inspiration. Fact is, I ain't changing and this is me. I can be very upset and deep at times (most times at the moment) on these forums. It just depends on home and personal health stuff.

However, you ain't been here for about four weeks. You would have no clue.
