Here's a great suggestion which came up in digestion. If you can turn a tidy rhyme then you can make a prime dime.

Subject: Internet, Special Reserve, Freeola, Games, Consoles and/or people or animals of the forums (including staff)*.

Your subject must be any or all of the above otherwise your poem will not count.

Best poem by midday on September 5th wins a £25 EXTRA GAD prize. That's any game of your choice up to £25. (Poems are worth much to us)

Only one winner. The Judge will be Fate (my wife).

Oh yes - leave out the complete rubbish PLEASE. And if it is supposed to be the words to a tune then please tell us which tune as we don't carry a juke box of ditties in our little heads.

*er - I don't mean the staff are animals.

"LIKE GOATBOY" by Tarrant.

Why is it that "good things come in small packages",
whereas bad things "come in many forms"?
Is that not unfair,
Shouldn't good things be permitted to arrive in a format other than the small package?
Things aren't balanced - there's no equalibrium,
Should we worry?
NO - because some bad things are good,
Like Goatboy.

I wrote this just after the last E3 show as a lyrical expression of how impressed I was by Nintendo’s showing (and no I’m not a ‘fanboy’).

I know this is long (based on the full 8 1/2 minute original version of American Pie) but I'm sure you won't be disappointed (unless you hate Nintendo, that is). If you've got the original try singing along to the new lyrics!

A long, long time ago
I can still remember
How each new game used to make me smile
And I thought this feeling would last
But these days there a much lower chance
Maybe it's 'cos I'm no longer just a child

March '97 came and went
£250 I had spent
An N64 to show for it
I was so glad that I bought it

But four years on and it's nearly died
And Sega's Dreamcast will retire with pride
Three new machines are in my sight
Which of them should I buy?

Oh my, my, I just cannot decide
Goodbye Sega, see you later, we all know you wont die
As I kiss my old, out of date console goodbye
I wonder which of these new ones should I buy?
Which of these new ones should I buy?

Great games alone aren't always enough
You need a PR guru who really knows their stuff
To make sure your sales don't go slow
But when it comes to people like Nintendo
The games are all you really need to know
Because all of them are worth their weight in gold

Now the GameCube's got a new logo
And we've seen some games at the E3 Expo
And we were amazed, it's true
To see just what Nintendo could do

From right out of it's sleeve it has pulled another ace
To take us all far beyond 'The Third Place'
It's clear now who should win the race
It sure has helped me decide

I started singing
My, my I want one or I'll die
No debating about waiting that's the one I will buy
The other two boys can kiss their @sses goodbye
Nintendo will get it all right this time
With the GameBoy Advance added onto the side

Now for five years we've been under Sony's thumb
With carbon copy sequels that turn our minds numb
But that's not how it used to be
When each console was the cream of the cream
And games had to be seen to be believed
And sequels were full of originality

Now the new king has been falling down
Is its old friend about to steal it's crown?
How badly are they burned?
Has their lesson been learned?

Whereas Sega made a slight false start
The PS2 was falling apart
Causing lots of conflicting remarks
Debating how to decide

I'll be singing
My, my can I hear Sony cry?
Their creation of the 'Station is no favourite of mine
The PS2 is the one I really despise
But sadly it is unlikely to die
For some reason it's sales figures thrive

Now Microsoft have entered the fray
And we all wonder how long they'll stay
Unless they drop the price and fast
You may get a hard drive for your cash
But will this be used to fix the games that crash?
Will game patches be downloaded thick and fast?

Do you know it will cause Microsoft hell
They'll make a real big loss for each Xbox they sell
We all barely took a glance
Will they get a second chance?

The Japanese like things that they make themselves
Home grown stuff is what really sells
Will the Xbox be left on the shelves
And stay there 'till it's died?

Japan is singing
My, my who is this Bill Gates guy
From Nintendo? I don't think so. What's his purpose in life?
He may sell a few of his new consoles stateside
But here it will be left by the side
We've already made up our minds

At E3 they were all in one place
The next generation in the console race
Near each other but far from friends
So come on join a queue but it wont be quick
Getting your hands on an analogue stick
When you've finished you can join the queue again

From the back of a crowd I watched stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No Zelda was to be screened
And no new Mario could be seen

As we talked about the games into the night
Wondering who would put up the best fight
All our faces lit up with delight
And some of us nearly cried

We were singing
My, my we can't believe our eyes
We were praying we'd be playing on those games there that night
The good old days are coming back and are in sight
Singing who says the games market's on the slide
It can hold it's head high with pride

It's all thanks to a distorted cube
That came along with something to prove
Would we just turn and walk away?
Or will we queue outside a store
On the release date or several days before?
We know the answer now we've seen some of the games

Across the forums people screamed
The games looked better than we had dreamed
Many a word was spoken
But not a heart was broken

Of the three consoles that were on show
From Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo
Which to buy we all now know
We can at last decide

And we'll be singing
My, my which of the games will I buy
Star Fox Adventures, of course Zelda and maybe Metroid Prime
But I'll stay well clear of Phantasy Star Online
I wouldn't claim it as a Gameaday prize
Unless they make it better this time

We we're singing
My, my I want one or I'll die
No debating about waiting that's the one I will buy
The other two boys can kiss their @sses goodbye
Nintendo will get it all right this time

Internet Chat By Smile Dude

We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens
We all have to wonder, what this possibly means.

With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze
Looking for something or someone, as we sit in a daze.

We chat with each other, we type all out woes
Small groups we do form, and gang up on our foes.

We wait for somebody, to type out our name
We want recognition, but it is always the same.

We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt
In IMs we chat deeply, and reveal why we hurt.

We do form friendships - but - why we don't know
But some of these friendships, will flourish and grow.

Why is it on screen, we can be so bold
Telling our secrets, that have never been told.

Why is it we share, the thoughts in our mind
With those we can't see, as though we were blind.

The answer is simple, it is as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems, and need someone to tell.

We can't tell real people, but tell someone we must
So we turn to the puter, and to those we can trust.

Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains
They are Friends Without Faces, and odd little names.

Chips Chips and apple pips
I'm totally lame cos I cant win a game.
Game-a-day is so cruel,
Kind of like a muel.
I must admit this is pretty geeky,
But I'm doin it and actin freaky.
What's the point in doing this it's only for a twenty five pound prize,
But still I have a tinkle hope in my eyes.
No wonder I only got C's for English,
I cant write a poem to save this fish.
I'm listening to Coldplay,
I must admit they're not that gay.
Life is good enjoy it while you can,
The end is close and nigh,
Its all down to one man,
So now I must bid you farewell and say good bye.

It's not about where you are,
but about when you are.

It's not about who you are,
It's about who you're trying to be.

It's not about anyone else,
It's about the greater good.

It's not about anything else,
As long as the game's good.

As long as the game's good,
It'll never be enough.

As long as the game is bad,
There will be a want for something better.

For as long as I have thumbs,
I will never be alone.

Games will be my friend.

Chair racing, through the SR shops,
Soon schroeder will be wiping up blood with her mops,
Why did Tony put so many obstacles in this place?
How are we supposed to have a half decent race?
Between Loki's cheating and Snuggly's bribes,
It's a wonder we haven't divided into tribes,
Like that film Lord Of The Flies,
Except with more of Loki's lies,
About how he has a broken leg and can't compete,
Oh why is Loki such a cheat?
Rockets on his chair, oiled spilled on the floor,
I'm sure if he could he'd cheat some more,
schroeder has the bandages ready,
Looks like things could get messy
Loki has spikes on his wheels
His opponents will be sucking up their meals
Through straws after Loki's done
He won't rest till he's won

Why is Tony so generous?
The prizes he gives are numerous
Was he dropped on his head?
Did he fall out of bed?
Is he trying to get into heaven?
If so, open a shop in Devon
Actually, open one in Newcastle
So I can stop with the hassle
Of pleading with you
The right thing - you must do
Open a shop for the Toon Army
Before I drive you all barmy
With my constant requests for a shop in Newcastle
You can use the shop as a castle
To defend yourself from the newbies
I'm sure they all have cooties
So please open a shop up north
Before I run out of words that… rhyme
