Because of the hard drive the x-box blows competition away. The fact that you dont need memory cards like on the PS2 means that you don't riped off on games which need alot of memory. And also the games are much better because of the power. If your like me and have a PC that isn't fast enought to play games the x-box is a gift from god. It is much cheaper than a Pc and plays the same games.
I say long live the x-box and bring on the next console from Micosoft
Master Yoda
The x-box and Ps2 are, however, the future, even Nintendo will become the same way, and already have with the Q-Cube. The future isn't in consoles, they will vanish, the future is in multi-media devices. Even the GBA can become a T.V now..

What makes me laugh is that if the GC did do these extra things, watch guys like this instantly change their tune into a view of how great these things are.
Sorry mate, but its a lame way of trying to turn a little bonus into something heinous just because Nintendo isn't bothered with it.
Consoles such as the X-Box and PS2 have the same prime purpose as the GC - to play games. Just because they have extras such as DVD playback and the chance to play music CD's doesn't make them any less a game system.
Personally, I like the way the X-Box can upload soundtracks from CD's and use them in games. Some games like Halo are the type you'd never want to change the music in. But there are games such as driving games where its nice to add in your favourite soundtracks. Its not a major thing that destroys all the competition to the X-Box, but its always nice to have these extra options. I haven't bothered with the DVD playback because I already have a multi region DVD player, but theres plenty of people that will be happy to have the option using their games console.
A PC is a PC because its a multi task machine. At the end of the day, an X-Box's purpose is to play games. Your not going to get the likes of office programmes, etc on it.
So please drop this desperate arguement in a bid to make Nintendo look like some console hero.
I think that the difference lies in the fact that a video game plays "with you" on a playing field that is somewhat comparable. Whereas a computer game runs the game that you are playing, there is not the level of randomness or the approximations of real human play.
In other words the PC requires the game to run whilst working with the computer, but a console creates a small file onto the console itself which creates a buffer so that the game can run smoothly from the CD. Just out of interest for gamers, this is how the Xbox decreases load time, the small file which is created to the Hard-Drive utilises a function on the Xbox which helps to increase the speed of the buffer, this works a bit like faster modems, faster modems = faster download/buffer times, this is why the Xbox does load games faster than the other consoles on the market.
Instead of being ignorant to Nintendo just think about what you are writing, consoles don't require installations, don't require updated graphics cards or speed (until the next console comes out) and they don't require an operating system like Windows to run. If we didn't take console gaming to a higher level then we would be stuck back with the Snez (not that it would be a bad thing), but progression requires people to work with it, Microsoft and Sony only did what gamers want, the DVD helped me make a desicion between the GameCube and Xbox and I can tell you for sure it also made my friends minds up as well. The Xbox is a console and so is the PS2 so instead of saying that the GAmeCube is doing the right thing without including a GameCube, that also could be looked upon as the GameCube doing the wrong thing and not researching what gamers really want! With my big DVD collection I don't know where I would be without my Xbox so the DVD player is a great thing!

Big whoop, you could download add-ons and stuff on the Dreamcast, and that didn't have a hard drive.
