Does this sound like a complete description of what you'd need to make yourself a pc?
Worth having a go at (finance permitting, or course)?
Anyone done it here? Problems?
(PS. I was the one in charge of suggesting which PCs to show)
PC in a plastic box was pretty cool :)

If you're planning to use an IBM HDD you'll be lucky for it to be running long enough to write a review - if it ever installs an OS in the first place.

That? No, the XPs just do it faster.
I found, especially with CPUs, if you get an XP go for the lower ones, e.g. 1.4Gz, if your on a budget, as they do everything you'll want but cost less than half that the 1800XP+ cost, you'll also be able to pick up a better motherboard for your money's worth.
I'm just trying out an IBM 40Gb hdd too, hopefully when it gets running i'll write a review on how great it is :D i'm sure everyone will agree.
No I don't mean the quality, when messing around with Audio it's in .wav format, they're not small files by any means, this needs a fast cpu, P4 has some kind of super thingy that makes buffering? the audio faster...etc I actually have no idea what it does, I just heard that P4 had some floaty thingy in it that makes it much better for audio than the AMD cpus. :)

Only if you're never going to actually want to use it, eg. to use as an Internet gateway/firewall or something. I want a 133mhz Celeron.
> P4's are better for audio apparently
You are referring to the audio circuits, like AMD's 3DNow audio circuits (although that knowledge comes from my K6-2, they may have something better now), but in reality your audio quality is deciced by the quality of the sound card, the rarely has any say in the matter.
> floaty thingy or something,
Floating Point Operations. My XP2000 performs 2376 MFLOPS (Whetstone), whereas a P4 2.66ghz performs 2143 MFLOPS (Whetstone).
