According to a friendly internet rumour there is going to be a new version released towards the end of the year which has over 30 minutes additional uncut footage in it. Just a rumour which i heard might not be true but id recommend checking it out before buying.

You're just angry because it hasn't got any really fake zombies in it.

I won't even read your post, I'll just take the topic titles words and not by LOTR.

Goodbye.

Don't buy LotR? What is this pleb saying? Of course you buy the two-discer. And then you also buy the four-discer. Obviously.

And does anyone except me know what Argonath actually is?

By the way, all three versions of the film were announced at the same time so you can't say they didn't warn you.

Most retailers have tried to hide the existence of the alternative versions for fear it would harm sales of the first to be released, so it's them you should be pointing your fingers at.

Let's get this straight.

The 4 disc 'Extended' version has the 3h 30min (ish) cut of the film spread across the first 2 discs (with 4 commentaries whereas the normal version has none). This version of the film is roughly how it was originally intended to be released at the cinema before New Line said they wanted the total run time to be under 3 hours (true). The six hours of extras on the Extended discs are not on the normal version and the extras on the normal version will not be on the Extended version (trailers and simple things will still be there - I mean the same documentaries won't be on both).

The Collectors Edition is the same except it includes some Argonath bookends, a fancy box and (apparently) the National Geographic Beyond the Movie DVD about New Zealand and stuff (I think it's that one - either way it's a bit rubbish).

Both of them are released in November.

So wait for the 4 disc one and spend an extra fiver or so and buy the (very cheap) Beyond the Movie DVD seperately if you realy care about it.

You could do what I did, and let your brother buy it instead.

Thus negating the whole 'shall I wait for the other version' debacle.
