Not meaning to sound insulting, but other than a dvd player and a budget range, what exactly does the PS2 have going for it.

Yes, you have a huge playe base, yes you can play dvds, yes you can buy old games on the cheap.

What else do you have? Give me groundbreaking games. Tell me something, please.

Ironic that - it was Goatboy that gave me the inspiration for my name change.

Hey, no problem. Better people ask me why I changed my name than accuse me of trying to hide under a new nick (lo Goatboy)

well there will be a 40 GIGABYTE hard drive comming out and also there are modems out at the moment for net play, but I'm not sure what version consoles they work with. The UK should have them sometime this year!

why the name change?

Do you not find Insane Bartender, a name derived to attention in Yahoo chat rooms, not a little odd to hang on to?

Ripper, derived from my surname Rippingale, is far more apt, since it's been my nickname for most of my life, and is in no way related to those sad, sad days attention seeking by posing as a virtual bartender in Yahoo pickup bars for 25-30 year olds when I was 18.

Yes, Mr Ripper is much better.

A point to be taken is that console wars are essentially pointless. While one console may perform worse than another, at the end of the day, people are generally happy with the console they choose, otherwise they'd take it back...

The important thing is that most of the points raised here can be applied to all formats. Pretty much everything that the PS2 "doesn't have going for it" applies in equal proportion to the Xbox, for me at least.

And despite "not having anything going for it", it's still selling in massive numbers. Fair enough, you could claim (though I wouldn't agree) that people were just buying blindly when the machine was first released. But we're now two years on. People know what it can do, what's available for it, and what WILL be available for it.

So there's obvously something there that appeals to the majority of people. If some people don't like it, fine. No skin off my nose, and even less so off Sony's.

You can't appeal to all of the people all of the time, but if you can appeal to most of the people for eight years or more, you're obviously doing something right.

Pro Evolution Soccer

The only reason to own a PS2

Thats my view anyway...

Only PS2 game I've played in the last two months. (I own 17 games)

I wont even need the thing when Pro Evo is released for GameCube.
